Ubi is putting out alot of games. Ubi put out alot of half-ass 'Cube ports. So expect many of their Wii games to be crap. Let's not stray away from reality here. Just because a 3rd party is making a game for the Wii doesn't mean it will be good. I'm not trying to be negative, but realistic. Some of these Ubi games will be half-ass ports.
I have a feeling that Splinter Cell will be the biggest offender. IT's just announced too late in the game and the 'Cube version ini which they are tacking on the gestures was probably no more than a half-ass port. I hope it's not so. But I don't have a lot of faith there.
The plastic wheel is the very definition of a sparkling innovation. I admit it will be fun to try out and I shouldn't have compared it to a racing wheel because obviously a racing wheel is far more money (well unless you're like me and picked up the SpeedForce/pedals for $10 new) and a real gaming wheel delivers a far better experience than the wiimote ever could in a 5 cent piece of plastic. The way I see it is that using a 5 cent piece of plastic isn't an upgrade to my racing experience.
I agree that not ALL third party games will be high caliber. The reality is that it's very rare for a third party game, much less a third party game to be released on all major consoles, to be console a triple A game. But all I'm saying is that the Wii getting this much third party support is a good thing that will help the console along.
Like I already told you, the NES, the GB family, the DS and the Playstation family of consoles were ripe with third party games of questionable quality, some of them being the worst ever created, but in the end what people pay attention to the most was the fact that they had a huge library of games full of variety. People sometimes look at the consoles available and the ones that pleases them the most are the ones with the huge library of games. Both the N64 and the GC had small libraries and lacked that third party support. True, the small library they had were filled with some of the best games ever but in the end to some people quantity comes first, quality second.
So all I'm saying is that seeing the Wii getting this much support from a major third party company (you can question the quality of their games, but there's no denying that Ubisoft if an important company with some history under their belt) at the beginning of the console's life is actually a good thing and may inspire other third parties to support the Wii later on.
As for the steering wheel, I admit that it isn't all that impressive but people are making too much of a deal over this. If you don't want it, just don't buy it or don't use it. It's a simple as that.
If I am not mistaken, the light gun shell planned for the Wii is that, a shell that you can connect your Wii controller and make it act as a gun. Same deal with this, connect the controller so that it acts as a steering wheel.
So again, people are making mountains out of molehills with this. I honestly doubt this will affect the overall console and it's quality. I seldom remember a third party pheriperal that has affected the quality of a console. If that was the case, then I'm sure the NES would've died the minute R.O.B was released :p .
