Bittorrent Help
« on: January 29, 2007, 02:15:05 AM »
I've been using Azureus for awhile, and even though I have Norton Anti-Virus, I have the firewall fully open to allow Azureus to work, and usually it does. It never gets the green smiley face, always yellow, but now I can't download anything. I tried changing ports and that worked for a little while, but it not got beyond 1.3kb/s. Even that has stopped working, I've tried everything listed on the azureus wiki pages and nothing works. Here's my general situation.

I have Verizon DSL no router.
Norton Internet Security 2006
A Westell model 6100 modem.
Windows firewall is turned off.
I'm running Windows XP Media Edition
As I mentioned above Azureus has worked in the past although not to top performance.

I'm quite perplexed and thinking of just trying a re-install, but the setting for Azureus in Norton are fully opened, and enable it to make every connection it needs to, so I don't think re-installing, and re-setting the rules would do anything.

Have you made any system or network changes of any sort lately?

Also, I like Azureus but I found I like uTorrent a little better, you might want to check that out if you think it's a software thing.

It's possible that Verizon is blocking your traffic.

Well after 48 hours of not working, it just decided to start working again without me doing anything to it, Norton is running and everything is going somewhat smoothly, the speed is hovering around 3kb/s but it should go up.

Thanks for your help I'll probably try utorrent when this file is done I've heard good things about it from other people I know also.

uTorrent is alright, but I find that I get better download rates with Azureus because it is used by so many people. Azureus has some built in features to connect with other Azureus users if the Tracker is not functioning properly, and it seems to also have an easier time transfering data back and forth with other Azureus clients. Maybe I'm just crazy and there really isn't any difference, but I usually see one on my computer in the least (or used to when I had Windows).
