Japanese Wii Ads...
« on: November 02, 2006, 08:07:16 PM »
Here they are

Very much like what I expected.

Though, I'd bet money that the US ads will include more shots of attractive people using the controller...

They're a bit dull.. but they're very functional.

Yep!  Functional advertising is all Nintendo needs, though.  It's not trying to pitch graphics and coolness.
That's my opinion, not yours.

I have the feeling that they might ramp up the "style" of the commercials for the US version. The japanese have always done smewhat calmer, duller commercials for its games (example being the AC Wild world commercial. The japanese one featured a lady walking around, talking softly in a calm, relaxed manner. While the US version had 4 kids in a neighborhood filled with people with animal heads, representing the animal aspect of the game).

EDIT: Although in my humble opinion, the narrator is WAY TOO DULL. You would think exciting technology like the Wii would warrant a more charismatic announcer.

I'd prefer it if all commercials were like this. They tell you exactly what the product does....what more do you need?

If you just watch the newest one you would think its the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Fishing.

Also don't know how fond of the Trumpet I am.

I've heard that people just talking is one of the most effective forms of advertising.  Supposedly people remember the commercial and recall what the product does better.  The narrator isn't super-excited, but Nintendo isn't necessarilly selling to the same old young crowd any more.

That said, I agree with pap - NOA will probably have flashier ads.  More models hyper-reacting and more action all around.  I don't know for sure if that's better or not.

Oh, I'm not saying the overall commercials are bad. I agree that they are short, sweet and most importantly TO THE POINT. What I don't like is the announcer. It's like they hired the Japanese equivalent of Ben Stein to do the voice over.

I think they should've casted a more "awake", more dynamic announcer. Nothing over the top, but more normal sounding.

Oh and couchmonkey, the reason the US ads will be more hyper is because the US audience are used to extreme, over the top commercials. I mean, if they did a commercial like this people would bash it as if it was the PS3 Baby ad REBORN for the sole reason that the announcer sounds BORED out of his mind.

I think in the least, for the Wii console they will show people play it, while the games themselves will be different. I imagine a very epic commercial for Twilight Princess.

I thought Japan was the center of the over-excited announcer universe. These ads would then be in distinct contrast to the typical commercial. And, as couchmonkey noted, they're advertising to everyone. I like them. Even in the West, I think these commercials would be refreshing to see, instead of the usual sight gag or prostitute.
