A Real Trauma Center
« on: August 01, 2006, 11:40:08 AM »
So I was watching T.V the other day, I forget which channel, and this surgeon was on T.V, and guess what he said? Playing video games all his life gave him the skills to be a surgeon!

This may seem really strange because how can playing video games translate to a scalpel (before the DS and Wii anyway)? It's because of a major advance in surgery, called, i can't remember what it's called, stereoscopic, or something of that nature, where someone has this camera on the end of a stick, sticks it into the patient and the surgeon uses tools on the end of stick to do what he's gotta do. Somehow playing video games, and not actually feeling what you're doing, plus the independent or somewhat unrelated two handed movement prepares people for this type of surgery.

What made me think of this today, since I saw this on T.V like 2 weeks ago, is the release of the new super monkey ball. Why you ask? Because that's what the good doctor was playing. Also I thought of it, and put it in this forum, because how much more will the Wii prepare people for this surgery? I mean in the game Trauma Center, it'd be really cool if they implemented this kind of surgery, because with dual motion sensing, it'd be like actually doing it. Which is the whole point isn't it? Realism... it doesn't come from graphics.
Silly monkeys; give them thumbs they make a club and beat their brother down. How they survive so misguided is a mystery. Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an a eye to heaven conscious of his fleeting time here.

Realism comes from Monkey Nads.

PGC is quite the trauma center, discussing Dead Systems and all.

I read a news article a while ago about how many doctors played Super Monkey Ball to refine their surgical skills.

That is really weird, I just picked Trauma center (the game) back up today after not playing it for a while, then I see this thread.

As for Monkey ball, I can definately see why that game helps with such skills, it takes such precision, and patience to finally stop killing monkeys.

RIP to the thousands monkeys who have plummeted to their death while trapped in a small ball, just for my amusement.
