I am Karl Castaneda's news-posting clone, also known as Karl Castaneda #2. I have an inferiority complex, thanks to my being a clone. Fear me!

Anyone want to vouch for the track record on this source? If it is true, it sounds like the actual specs are going to mirror the problems with the PS2 all over again, as theoritacally they aren't bad until you actually sit down and but them to use. Although at least this time Nintendo's offering won't be able to outperform it here.

Unless the demos at E3 aren't even in the realm of reality, the system looks equal to or greater than the Xbox 360, to me.  Specs don't mean anything to me.

Equal? Maybe. Greater? Not likely. At last report, the RSX has the power of two GeForce 6800s. The 360 GPU and Radeon X1900 are very similiar. The Radeon X1900 out paces every GeForce with the exception of the GeForce 7950 which is two GeForce 7900 GPUs on one card. The Cell is "superior" to the 360 CPU. If you can get a handle on all of the SPUs and it is still inferior to the 360 CPU when it comes to data management. Not to mention the fact that SPUs of the Cell are useless if the core gets bogged down....

It's the speed at which the CPU can read from the GPU memory. Noone does that anyway.

Okay, I admit that I implied the PS3 is more powerful, and I may be wrong about that, but as I said, specs mean nothing to me.

What I should have said is that if the article is true, the difference isn't big enough to matter.  From a purely visual standpoint, the PS3's game lineup looked better than the Xbox 360 lineup to me.  Maybe that's due to better art direction, but if better art direction is enough to make the PS3 games look better, then the power difference doesn't matter.

Caveat: I'm assuming that the framerates are about equal, that's hard to judge from videos on the interweb.
Edit - Double caveat: I suppose this could also mean longer load times.  If they exceed 10 seconds, then that's might be a problem, but it sure didn't hurt PSX vs. N64.

PS1 games were also around half the price of N64 games, which is something to consider.

LOL.

Arbok brings up an interesting point...do we know what PS3 games are retailing for?  I think maybe they were announced to be about the same as Xbox 360 games, but I wonder if the Bluray format will make them more expensive to press, and if so, is the difference big enough to force Sony to keep Greatest Hits prices up, or hold off on adding games to the Greatest Hits lineup?

Sony likes to say and do some silly things anyway, so maybe PS3 games will be announced to be $70.  :P

At West Edmonton Mall, there's only one game store that seems to have survived for so long, and one can only wonder why - they overcharge for everything, I don't know who would buy from there.  They were trying to sell Animal Crossing for the GameCube for $90 (Canadian) when it first came out - and there were similar prices for other GameCube games, some older at the time - which is like 50% more expensive than a GameCube game is sold anywhere else.

My point is, those stores that seem able to sell things to people at outrageous prices might be able to sell PS3 games at that high or higher with a reason like "because it's on Blu-Ray" regardless of what Sony's MSRP is.  Or maybe "you've already spent $599.99 on the console, so what's $10-$20 more per game?"

I've been to the store you're talking about.  We have similar ones in Calgary, but they're stand-alone.  It seems like the day of the independent gaming store is over, unless you're willing to shell out way too much cash for everything.

I've been to that store too - I took one glance at the prices and walked out right away. It's the one near the ice rink, right?
