TY's Serioushouse
« on: June 06, 2006, 08:37:12 PM »
No, this isn't about Ty's funhouse getting too serious (but that is a problem!)

On the forums, talk of Religion, Politics, Sexual Orientation, and apparently Nationality is forbidden. This is good because, GameCube being a tiku tiku tiku!  console, most forum goers here at planetgamecube are naturally unable to carry on serious adult conversations about these subjects. But, these subjects also happen to intersect with videogames a good deal... and conversations about them keep spilling out, only to be shoved back in the closet. So, why not get them out of the closet, by making a seperate forum where topics of serious can be discussed and contained?

because then people start hating each other and the whole place becomes unpleasant and some idiot gets offended and spams the whole board

Seriously, you really think you want to know these people's political views?

Sure. I'm not going to think less of someone because they voted for Nader. Plus, I think openly discussing things is better than tucking things away.

...But, perhaps you're right, and we don't need the tension. Hmm.

Man, that's what you say now.

If we allow politics, I think the board would explode.

George W. Bush is the best damn president ever.  Hell, he's the best human who has ever lived.
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

If some Nintendo-platform game(s) came along that really and truly dealt with these topics in a manner worth discussing, we might allow such discussion under closely monitored conditions.  But as far as expanding the non-gaming discussions to allow for these topics, or creating a separate area for them, no way.  You can create your own forum and invite all your friends from the PGC forums to go there to talk about this stuff, but it's not happening here.  Look at the intense arguments that erupt over games.  Now magnify that hostility a hundred-fold and you have some idea of what would happen.

I've noticed more than a few political undertones when I was reviewing Karaoke Revolution Party.  I didn't mention them in the final form because I didn't want the talkback forum to explode with rage over the blatant conservative rhetoric in songs like Turn the Beat Around and I Left My Heart in San Francisco.

Yeah, I'm playing Twin Snakes now (for the first time).  I can see there being interesting political discussions coming out of this game, and I would allow them as long as they stay relevant to the game.  Context matters.

Where the heck was I for this thread?
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Oh I remember that thread.  I just don't recall any avatar changes.

What was up with the Cloudman stage?  Why were there no soul shells or a Vinculum Gate?

Vudu, are you sure there weren't? Well, it was around a year ago that I played it, but I think it was because the Cloudman stage wasn't set up by Kun Lao, like the rest of the game seemed to be. Then again, I don't think the Dominican stage was set up by Lao, either, and they had that stuff, so I dunno. That is odd.

Ty just changed his avatar to "I support masturbatory rights" or something, I think.

In addition to that, there was a hybrid gay pride/star and crescent flag (probably more offensive to muslims than to shawnst3r...)

edit: btw, I thought that was a semi-reasonable discussion/debate, though I suppose others might disagree. I've certainly seen worse on the internets.
