This doesn't rule out a GBNext... it rules out yet another hardware revision to the GBA.

True but I think that the GBnext will more an likely be a DSnext now. With the DS selling as well as it is, I don't think we will see a new gameboy. I think the DSAdvanced will probably be Nintendo's next portable. A dual screened system with GC like power that will probably launch whenever MS decides to jump into the portable arena.

So, really, that whole third pillar nonsense was just a safety net in case the DS bombed. But now that the DS owns the world, it's the new GameBoy! Despite Nintendo lying, this is good news to me. The DS is AWESOME and that awesomeness looks to double-triple before we reach 2007. Just give me Metroid Dread, you bastards.

I don't really want to see a GBnext really, either.
Yeah, I do play mafia games.

or maybe it was a sincere goal to have 3 pillars and the DS just became so much bigger a cultural phenomenon than they expected that it doesn't make a lot of sense anymore to have both.

I'm sure though that somewhere Nintendo is working on another handheld. It might not be available until 2009 or 2010... but it's being worked on.

I don't think this means they will stop making GBA SP's and Micro's, it just means they will probably no longer make games for it first partywise.  Doesn't stop third parties from making games.

The GBA still sells amazingly well in the US and possibly Europe, plus Japan sales are not that bad.

Just take the GB line and the DS line and put them together for the next gen.

I honestly don't understand why people want a GBNext, it would be a step back for handheld gaming. Right now the DS's (and hopefully future iterations) dual screens and touch screen are able to expand handheld gaming, why should it be limited to one screen again? It makes no sense to me, heck if a company REALLY wants to they can eliminate that second screen from their games, even if I see no point to it.
