Wow you guys beat me to it. Anyway it looks to have 8 action buttons total. 4 face buttons and 4 shoulder buttons. It actually look more functional than the GC controller IMO. The lack of wireless functionality is puzzling but maybe I'd actually be able to play some good old SNK and Capcom 2D fighters with it. Edit: Its only fair Mantidor, I mean Sony tried to jack the motion sensing abilities of the Wii controller. Turn about is fair play no?

I have an idea of where the Wiimote can go. See, you hold the controller in you hands, and squeeze the Wiimote between your thighs. >=D  Then, with developed hip movement...voila!
Do, or do not. There is no try.

Regarding the layout: This thing is intended primarily for playing games for which the D-pad is the primary input, not the analog stick.  It makes sense for the D-pad to be in the primary position in that case.  The criticism against the Dual Shock is that with the move to 3D games, the analog stick should have been moved to the primary position.  Also, judging by the width of the cord, D-pad, and buttons, this thing's pretty small.  I doubt it will be as much of a reach to the analog sticks on this controller as it is on the Dual Shock.

For N64 games, I hope that the controls can be customized.  for games that just use the C buttons for camera control, the stick would work fine, but for some games it would be nice to be able to choose which buttons do what.  With the extra shoulder buttons, every button could be remapped, although the best layout for each game might be different.

I'm not convinced this is the final design.  The home button isn't recessed like it is on the new remote, for starters, and it's not wireless.

Looks like it might be hard to hold, but I'm glad they went with a more traditional button configuration.  I hope I'm wrong about the holding thing.

Reading the brief description at the bottom; those L and R buttons (the big ones) are analog. Other than Gamecube, which is supposed to use its own controllers, nothing in the VC should really need those. I wonder what this thing is for, when all is said and done. It is labeled as "Classic Controller" so one /could/ infer that it is to be used for the VC games, but... isnt that what they are already calling the way 360 and PS3 games will handle? The "classic" way? There are substantial pieces of kanji I cant read, but when my wife gets home from work I will have her take a look at it and translate it for me. If you guys are interested, lemme know and I'll post what I find out.

INTERESTED!
Silly monkeys; give them thumbs they make a club and beat their brother down. How they survive so misguided is a mystery. Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an a eye to heaven conscious of his fleeting time here.

There won't be a shell. The only thing that would be different about the shell would be that it would allow motion control.  It would be easier to just add a motion sensor to the controller than to make a docking mechanism.  It may just be a clone of the PS3 controller.  But the motion control in the PS3 controller is a joke, so they may not even need that.

This controller can play all VC games and Gamecube games.
It can also play Wii games that need classic (PS2(3)/Xbox(360)) style controls.  I don't see any need for a Wii game to use classic controls and motion control ar the same time... that would be as akward as the ps3 controller demo.

Well, thank the cryptic Japanese language if you'd like, but after some back and forth with my wife and two dictionaries later, I have the translation to the Nintendo.co.jp description of the controller. It only furthers my original belief that this will not only be the "shell" but a virtual console controller as well. The line reads "Has Wii Remote communication funcionality". Take that as you will. Sounds to me like they may have decided to make one controller for VC and ports which, IMHO, is a good idea.

Urk. How about handles? WTF is with the analog sticks? And how does that play N64 games? What are the four shoulder buttons good for, it's not emulating anything with more than three. Or is that supposed to be a controller for games that don't want to change their controls when being ported from the PS2/3 to the Wii?

This is the worst controller ever. It should be banned. Anyone who likes it should leave. I'll play Super Nintendo games with the remote.
