E3 Runs Out of Floor Space
« on: March 06, 2006, 07:31:13 PM »
Oddly enough, those who haven't yet got a booth will be relying on two NBA teams and a NHL team for space to open up.

E3Expo Announces Sell-out of 2006 Event

LOS ANGELES--March 6, 2006--The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3Expo) has sold out of exhibit space for 2006, having sold more than 540,000 net square feet of space covering all five exhibit halls at the Los Angeles Convention Center, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) announced today. The 2006 E3Expo, the world's premier computer and video game industry trade event, will host more than 400 exhibitors covering space equivalent to 4,650 Olympic swimming pools.

"As the global computer and video game industry enters an important creative and technological transition, the early sell out of E3Expo affirms the critical importance of this event," said Douglas Lowenstein, president of the ESA, the trade association that represents U.S. computer and video game publishers and owns E3Expo. "As the first place to see the most anticipated next generation hardware and software titles, and the best place to learn about the industry through its unrivaled conference program, E3Expo 2006 will offer attendees an unparalleled view of the business of games."

E3Expo, now in its twelfth year, will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center on May 10-12 for exhibits and on May 9-11 for 34 conference and workshop sessions, which will be led by an unsurpassed panel of more than 175 industry leaders. For more information, visit www.e3expo.com or the official E3Expo consumer news source www.e3insider.com for breaking news and special reports from the show floor.

About E3Expo:

E3Expo is the world's premiere trade show for computer and video games and related products. The show, now in its twelfth year, is owned by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), the U.S. association dedicated to serving the business and public affairs needs of the companies publishing interactive games for video game consoles, handheld devices, personal computers and the Internet. For more information, please visit www.e3expo.com or www.theesa.com.

In addition to this sell-out announcement, GameSpot has word that more floor space may be made available for the show if conditions are right.  That is, if the Los Angeles Lakers or Clippers don't make the NBA Playoffs, and the Los Angeles Kings don't make the NHL postseason.  Staples Center, which is adjacent to the LA Convention Center, may open its doors and make room for more show space provided there are no basketball or hockey playoff games that conflict with the three exhibit days of E3.

Hahaha, the headline made it sound like the sport teams BOUGHT booths at E3...I was all set to rant about how only game companies should be allowed space! ='D

I expect that Nintendo has bought a very large portion of the show-floor, they've got to have enough playable booths for the new Zelda so that lines don't get over-crowded, they need enough room between each REV booth so that no one hits another accidently, and that leaves the DS booths which don't require much space at all. I expect that Nintendo's show-floor will be roughly twice the size of Sony or MicroSoft's own.

Of course they'll make it.  It is my job as a professional to report subjectively, however.

Only his presence.  Like a magnet, crowds will either be attracted to or repelled by his presence, depending on whether he's in name-taking mode.

Any large indoor space REGGIE steps in at the Convention Center automatically becomes THE THUNDERDOME.  Prepare yourself, FOR MORTAL COMBAT.

All that land and development going on back in Redmond?  They're all arenas for REGGIE to practice in.

Speaking on the REV, how do you think they'll handle the wireless nature of the controller. Surely they don't want people to steal it, but using a wired controller would only put off impressions (though it didn't seem to have any effect on TGS impressions).

Maybe they have these glass cages that people step into. In the cage is the REV, NRC, a TV, and a guard of some sort. There would be enough room for the guy to do his thing, and everyone else could watch.

It would be cool the controller gave a person a shock if they got too far away from the console.  I can just see a Sony rep being zapped while trying to steal this idea.  Of course it's a little cruel.  But Nintendo does deserve a little revenge.

Good thing Nintendo bought all their space ahead of time--that would be suicide for Nintendo if they weren't at E3.  I can imagine hired game developer assassins to run into the basketball games and take out Shaq's kneecaps.  Haha!  The E3 space shall be mine, he yells as security guards taser him repeatedly in front of thousands of laughing people.

If you put up a brass mesh around a room it pretty effective blocks all froms of wireless.  Plus it's relatively cheap.  You know I could see it now that it happens that all those events line up and instead of new companies getting the space Nintendo goes "You know the Reggie Thunderdome sounds like a Good Idea."  Then keeps a booth at the main center to redirect people that goes and buys ALL of the room in the main area of the Staple Convention center.  Then give the same treatment they did for Zelda last year but the whole place with themes appropriate to where you are (DS stuff for DS, Cube for Cube, Rev for Rev, so on so on).

Excepts Shaq hasn't played for the Lakers for 2 years and since he's in the Eastern Conference, there is no way he'd play either the Lakers or Clippers in the playoffs during E3.

Well, since the Clippers are almost guaranteed and the Lakers have a very good chance of making it, this extra part is pretty much moot at this point.

Can't wait to see the floor space and see how much room Nintendo has compared to Sony and Microsoft.  I'm guessing Sony & Nintendo will be about equal being as they have to show off new hardware playable demos.  Plus Sony has Blu ray to show off and Nintendo has Zelda and DS.

Maybe they should start putting limits on how much floor space everyone can have.  A lot of space seems to be taken up by sets and decorations and such that they probably could cut back on a bit.

Excuse my ignorance of the NBA but I was unaware that the Clippers and Lakers both played out of the same building.  That seems pretty weird.  How does it work for season ticket holders when the two teams play against each other?  In the NHL New York has two teams but they play out of different arenas.

for anyone who went to E3 last year, do you remember Microsoft's outside tent booth?  There were guys trying to get u into it, it creeped me out.  I bet they were implanting 360 microchips into your hand and force you to buy ridiculous stuff like a faceplate!

Seriously why would you buy a faceplate?  It only covers 25% of the damn ugly xbox 360!  What you should do is just buy a damn case mod or skin your whole d@mn system.

The New York Giants and The New York Jets have shared Giants Stadium, which is located in East Rutherford, N.J., for the past 20 years. Nothing new.
