That Jesus movie....

So, anyone else catch Chronicles of Narnia? It's a pretty fricken good adaptation, which surprised me.

The thing I liked best about it was that they did such a good job with the characters....which is a nice change from the Harry Potter films, where the kid's interactions have tended to be stilted and one dimensional. Here, there's all kinds of subtle interplay between the characters, and, best of all the kids...in fact, everyone, gives wonderful performances (well, except for Jim Broadbent...ugh).

And, while the film isn't really as imaginative as it should be, they didn't really screw anything major up either...so a lot of the power of the original story shines through. There are just so many scenes that are emotional without ever being manipulative or sappy, just like the book.....I found Edmund's return especially moving.

So, yeah, go see it, if you haven't already.

So it's good, eh?  I wasn't sure it would be, what with all the focus on war scenes.  I'm used to trailers being misleading, though, so I was still intending to see it.  Thanks for the recommendation.

I've got to see this and King Kong.  That'll be good enough for the holidays, I think.

Well, there's only the one war scene - and it's the climax of the film. A lot of reviewers said that it goes on for way too long, so, going in, I was expecting a Steamboy-like unbearbly long action-filled final act....when really, it's shorter than, say, any of the battle scenes from the Lord of the Rings films. But, I guess compared to the book, where the battle took, like, 2 sentences, it was kind of long.

The film is probably a bit too action-heavy and fast paced, though. I'm thinking specifically the children's/beaver's escape from the wolves could've done with a bit less action and a bit more suspense. And there are other times when the film could've done with a bit of slowing down....it spends hardly anytime in the beaver's home, for example, and no time on Edmund's inner conflict as he heads towards the witch's castle.

Still, it's not nearly as action-heavy as the trailers would suggest.

I agree.  Very good movie.  I never actually read the books...but I enjoyed the movie nonetheless.

Something that really turned me off was the lion coming back to life.  If he's dead, leave him dead!  And what turned me off even more was that the head honcho (Peter) didn't kill the witch, the lion dude did!  The protaganist doesn't go on his journey to have someone finish stuff for him!  And Santa?  What in the world was that about?

Very good movie...

Hopelessly unimaginative adaptation, very reminiscent of the dull Harry Potter original. You're better off spending time with Goblet of Fire or King Kong this holiday season. This is a family movie with little depth for adults, and no depth for film buffs.

Good thing I stopped going to theaters to see "deep" movies ( I found even the Lord of the Rings to be empty, and for the life of me I couldnt feel anything for the characters or the story) but to watch awesome special effects in huge screens with dragons flying and all cant wait. Ill get my deep emotional story fix with books. certainly not LoTR, narnia, or, urgh, harry potter

That's because the books are really just retellings of the bible. Aslan = Jesus.
