Rules: What can be put in sigs?
« on: October 02, 2005, 08:52:25 AM »
I know you guys allow some site whoring to go on in sigs, which is nice, but where do you draw the line?  Can we advertise ebay auctions for example?

Just wanted to know ahead of time.

I don't think there would be anything wrong with eBay links.

On another note I think it would be good to have sig pics. But have a limit on the size and the space they take up.

Sig pics contribute nothing except allowing for more uncontrolled images to enter the forum. Considering how anal PGC is about leeching and copyright infringement I don't think we'll see them allowed any time soon. I have yet to see a sig pic that really contributes anything except a larger avatar and cluttering up the page.

I'd guess anything is fine as long as it isn't illegal and you don't make threads or posts about it to get attention.

I see your point. But then alos what is the point of having text only sigs? Pics could also be used as links to other sites, and don't forget a picture speaks a thousand words.

Only after a while did it PGC even allow the avatars.  But sig pics are just obnoxious.  Those thousand words are usually a thousand too many.

And then there are some pics that are indescribable with words. Too beautiful for words. That being said I am starting to dislike my idea of sig pics and shall not be pushing the point any further.

The sig is a place where you can put e.g. links to homepages or quotations. It's not supposed to be "too beautiful for words" or anything. Also, keep in mind that sig pics tend to be higher than ~ 10 or 20 pixels, usually much higher than the actual content of the post. It looks cluttered and it's pointless. One line of actual post between ten centimetres of sigs?

This is one of three forums I post to with any regularity--none of them allow images in signatures. I appreciate that PGC is strict (relative to the lawless interweb, anyway). Enforcing forum policies invariably means reduced activity, but for all the loss of membership is an increase in pleasantness. So, thanks to PGC for providing an asylum for those of us tired of the trolling and flaming and abusive moderators that infest so-called online communities.

Well I went ahead and did it.  If it ticks you off PM me and I'll remove it, or you can take it out.. I don't think it's a big deal.

Why would I want to buy your Pokemon Colosseum bonus disc on ebay?
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I don't mean me in particular.  Sorry.  I meant why would someone want to purchase the bonus disc?  Is it rare?  Does it have some über Pokemon on it?  I'm not really familiar with Pokemon so I don't know what makes it special.

On a side note, if your accumulated stuff includes a copy of FF 6(JP) let me know and I'll buy it off you.

Heh, no, not really old games... just silly bonus discs like this from back in my retail working days.

The pokemon disc lets you download Jirachi to your gameboy game...  It's the only 'real' way to get Jirachi in north america i think.  Sealed copies seem to go from 20-30 bucks on ebay and I have like 7 of them I got out of the trash at work way back when.  =)
