How would they make Skies of Arcadia 2? (Spoilers Likely)
« on: February 18, 2003, 04:47:56 PM »
Remember how Overworks said they would only consider SOA2 if Legends sold well?  Well, buy it!  I need a sequel to this most excellent RPG (second only to Chrono Trigger in my mind).

Now that I'm done, I have to wonder what they could do in a sequel.  If they kept the main characters, what world would there be to explore?  I mean, sure, I want to continue playing with the trio (and Fina's new outfit!), but what left is there for them to do?

A different time, perhaps far in the future or in the past, could be the way to go.  Maybe a storyline about the creation of the Gigas and how they end up screwing the world over?

The other option I can see is one similar to Final Fantasy: same feel, new world and characters.  Yeah, this would work, but I don't see how it could still be Skies of Arcadia.  Final Fantasy started out as a generic RPG series, so they had no certain world to adhere to, but SOA is all about the Air Pirates and the Airships.

At the moment I'm leaning towards the different time period method, but that might hinder exploration, since they said there was only one continent per moon.

Any other ideas?

****BEWARE OF MY SPOILER RIDDEN POST!*******

I would love to play as Vyse again. They left the ending open for a sequal with them i think. Remember when Solitas was raised, all the air rifts (except for the dark rift) disappeared? Maybe they could do something that changes the world drastically and you have to explore it all over again. You could check out New Valua, New Nasrad, even the growing Crescent Isle. I REALLY don't wan't to play as anyone else. I really got attached to all the main charecters. I'd want to play with them while they're still young too... They're only 17 so it could be set a few years ahead and they'll still be youthful. Maybe a whole new aread of Arcadia opens up. All of Deep Sky rises and reveals alot or something... I really wish you didn't discover the world was round, then we could have something to work with.

That's it!  The world underneath deep sky, which could be a totally different world.  They could even have different physical laws, like light comes from the ground (being dark down there).  And a new magic system, based on whatever Deep Sky residents draw their power from (the six rock types?).  Thank you!

Fair warning this post may contain minor spoilers....read at your own risk.

Yeah I'd love to see a sequel too. I know the game is selling pretty well in the states partially due to the lack of RPGs, that plus factoring in the quality of the games, and the fact that like with PS0...Sega didn't ship enough copies. No wonder their earnings blow they don't seem to be able to anticipate the sales of their games very well. Anyway. Good point despite all of the floating continents, Arcadia has a whole "world" under the clouds.  That and even after you discover all of the continents and islands of the world there is plenty of room for someone or some catastrophe to cause "continents" to rise from the deep sky or as stated earlier there could be a whole civilization under clouds of the deep sky also. Maybe this civilization could have something to do with the mythical seven moon. There was a mention of a black moon that used to orbit Arcadia.....maybe it sank beneath the clouds of the deep sky or maybe its there but because of its color it hasn't been seen. Well those are just some ideas I have. So they could have a lost civilization of the Black Moon with a black gigas or maybe there are some more Silivites that are around that didn't approve of the use of the Rains of Destruction and split of from the main group of Silivites in disgust. There is a lot of room for a well made sequel, lets just hope it sells like Sonic Adventure 2 Battle did. Then we will surely get a follow up to SOAL. Oh and I apologize for the long post.

Don't apologize, do it more often-it's much more interesting.

And I had totally forgotten about the 7th moon rumor, but it would make sense for a sequel.  Another possibility I have thought of is travel to the moons-perhaps they are not all barren, and support life!  Ah, the possibilities....

Yeah, they could definitely do something with Deep Sky, or hell, even the moons.  The cool thing about the Arcadia world, vs. the average Final Fantasy world, is that it's still rather intact with a lot of area left to explore (up above, down below).  You don't travel to moons, see the world destroyed, etc.  I'd imagine that a sequel would be rather well received, especially if it still had a little interaction with the people in this game (like branches off from the current discovery set, a subplot with vyse and piastol, some of the same characters at the start but you have to leave them behind/they get killed).

There are a lot of options.  I guess it's just up to sega whether they do one or not.  But there's definitely a lot of options.

Ahaha.  Thanks.

And I don't see how they'd be keeping the same characters if they got killed.

Seriously though, this game needs to sell well, becuase frankly I need a sequel.

Man, what a game.
