Yeah anubis, I think the point of that chick is to show off the create a character.  At least thats what I gathered from it.  If it is then the creat a character will be pretty extensive.  If you can draw from other character's move sets with the create a character mode and they balance out ability distribution it could make for some very very interesting and original tournaments.  Evolution of the fighter???  possible.. =P

I guess it means Capcom gave some money back since RE isnt exclusive....

It was said that the RE deal didn't come with any moneyhats. It was just something Mikami put together for Nintendo because he was pissed at Sony. Supposedly the only "incentive" was that the REmake and REZero were guaranteed to be successful (aka: million sellers), otherwise it was a deal-breaker.

The lack of a moneyhat, combined with Sony's outrage over the situation, is why Capcom's been trying to worm out of the deal ever since it was made.

And to be technical, Capcom still isn't "breaking" the deal. They just announced (well in advance, early enough to hurt RE4's sales) that they're going to be busting away from Nintendo's grasp and releasing RE4 on the PS2 the instant their contract with Nintendo expires.

Also Nintendo did say the Rare sale was going to go to exclusives..

Yes, but everyone keeps forgetting that about a week after Ninty sold Rare, the European Union invented a shiny new "Selling Rare to Microsoft" tax, and took all of Nintendo's proceeds from the sale.

(Also, Nintendo would never have put all that money towards buying exclusives, because they just don't do that. They'd have put it towards buying up and supporting smaller "niche" companies, like Rare used to be, and like they did with Retro.)

Just weird. One minute Namco's all buddy-buddy with Nintendo, the next they're shafting them on yet another game that actually sold well on the cube.

There has to be money involved somewhere. There's no other explaination.

I also agree about GamePRO. They're really been sucking lately. Saying that a game they gave a 5 out of 5 a year ago is "horrible" now just further proves that theory.

PaleZero if that is what you are expecting with a create a character mode I think you may be dissapointed, I'm pretty sure it will be like most current 3d fighters by allowing you to customize your character, because I remember people refering to VF4's and Tekken's customization feature as a creat-a-fighter before they came out. I hope I'm wrong though, that is of course this is all correct to begin with.

Matt suggests its a temporary exclusive.

Is there an email to namco? Some "outrage" could maybe convince them to change their minds

A few more questions have popped up in my head that makes me question the validity of this article, one being were is the arcade version? Were is any mention of Dante, because from what I heard and what everyone here believes is that he is all but confirmed to be in a PS2 version of the game.

But that will all be moot if in fact Famitsu has confirmed this because if they say it then its probably right.

I am also thinking that Gamepro might have misunderstood the SYS 256 (or what ever its called) arcade board, which is based on the PS2 (and what I believe SCII ran off as well), for the actual PS2. Although I think thats a longshot.

Or maybe it will be a timed exclusive like RE4 is?

But at this point who knows?

Dear GamePRO:
RE: Soul Calibur III

Please die and rot in hell.

Sincerely,

Djunknown

GamePRO's been with me since I was 8 years old; 14 years of nostalgia turns into blind rage in 30 seconds. SCII a dissapointment? Well excuuuuse me princess that 2 million plus total sales is considered a dissapointment? What, they want Halo 2 numbers or something? Not only that,  the supposed 'KiTty' system gets the better sales? This type of idiocy is...painful.

Now that I've vented, I'll wait for more concrete details. Even Tekken 5 went to the arcades first before touching down on PS2.  That's their fighting game mainstay. I just hope logic and reasoning prevails. If not, Ian's conspiracy theory may just as well be true....

I wonder if that create-a-fighter mode allows you to upgrade your stats for money, trade and upgrade your weapon, etc. You know, like One Must Fall 2097 did. Man, an OMF career mode would be great and definitely add to SC.

There seems to be some hatred in this article. Soul Calibur 2 a disappointment? It was only a disappointment if you expected a step as large as SC1 was over Soul Edge and since Soul Edge was mediocre that step was huge. To do that step again SC2 would have been better than the absolutely perfect game. That is f###ing impossible.
