I guess it means Capcom gave some money back since RE isnt exclusive....
It was said that the RE deal didn't come with any moneyhats. It was just something Mikami put together for Nintendo because he was pissed at Sony. Supposedly the only "incentive" was that the REmake and REZero were guaranteed to be successful (aka: million sellers), otherwise it was a deal-breaker.
The lack of a moneyhat, combined with Sony's outrage over the situation, is why Capcom's been trying to worm out of the deal ever since it was made.
And to be technical, Capcom still isn't "breaking" the deal. They just announced (well in advance, early enough to hurt RE4's sales) that they're going to be busting away from Nintendo's grasp and releasing RE4 on the PS2
the instant their contract with Nintendo expires.

Also Nintendo did say the Rare sale was going to go to exclusives..
Yes, but everyone keeps forgetting that about a week after Ninty sold Rare, the European Union invented a shiny new "Selling Rare to Microsoft" tax, and took all of Nintendo's proceeds from the sale.
(Also, Nintendo would never have put all that money towards buying exclusives, because they just don't do that. They'd have put it towards buying up and supporting smaller "niche" companies, like Rare used to be, and like they did with Retro.)
