Is SoA a remake or a port?
« on: July 28, 2004, 10:53:18 AM »
Is there any sources that make it official that it's a remake?

Skies of Arcadia??

If that, it a little of both in a way.  It should be looked at as the Directors Cut.

If SoA means something else, then please be specific. =D

Yea Skies of Arcadia. If it's a port for GC then it's not exclusive. But if it's a remake it is. So which is it? Remake or port?

Truthfully the game is a port, but it has a lot of stuff that wasn't in the Dreamcast version, and also it has the stuff that was downloadable for the DC version already in the GCN version.  It's bascially like i said the Directors Cut, it has new characters.  If you played it already on the Dreamcast then I don't know if you'll want to buy it again, unless you really liked it (like me )  I personally can't tell any differences graphically, as I always thought the DC version looked awesome.

As for it being exclusive, the DC isn't around anymore and Sega aborted the PS2 version in favor of the GCN, so in theory it is exclusive, as this version of Skies of Arcadia is not available anywhere but on the GCN.

Nitsu pretty much summed it up- it's a director's cut, basically. It's not a full blown remake, but it has substantial additions that put it beyond being just a port.

If it was redone from scratch but had minimally better graphics it's still a remake right?

I think they're called enhanced ports.

It's a port with only ~0.01% changed.  And although it's not exclusive, since the Dreamcast is dead with no new DC games on the shelf, the ONLY place to get Skies is on the Cube.  So for all practical purposes, it's an exclusive.

A remake would be Metroid Zero where it's basically a different game.  Ditto Final Fantasy 1 & 2 in the "Origins" collection.

Actually, I did NOT say what everyone else said.  I added that Skies could be considered a Cube exclusive since its the only console which still has that game on store shelves.

The problem is, it isn't exclusive.

Do you understand the phrase "could be"?  It means, "Although Skies is not exclusive, since the Dreamcast is dead and rotting and no longer on store shelves, and the Cube is the only system currently carrying the game, for all *practical* purposes, you may consider it a Cube exclusive."

Not convinced?  Then I challenge you to go to EBgames and buy a NEW dreamcast version os Skies off the shelf.  You can't.  Because Sega has killed it.  Only the Cube still has this game.

I own it, given the GCN version is also all but dead, why would that matter?

The Cube version is still on the shelf at my local EBgames & Gamespot.

The Dreamcast version is dead.  No longer available for purchase.

So *for all practical purposes* the Skies games is only available for the Cube.  That was all that I was saying.  It's not a difficult concept to wrap your brain around.

Because the DC still isn't totally dead. There's like two games coming out for it this year in Japan.

Irrelevant.  We were discussing Skies of Arcadia.  Skies of Arcadia for DC is dead.  You can't buy it new at Wal-Mart or Gamespot.  The ONLY choice (read: virtual exclusive) is the Cube version.

blol Some of us get a choice too. Like whether Largo Winch is a hilarious pile of garbage or worth $20. But which system to play Skies on isn't one of them (read: 4 copies released in Australia) blol but it's just not happening. aww

Yeah, I was replying to your comment about people not being able to admit the DC is dead. Not Skies. You edited that comment out after I posted. Sigh.
