THATS IT!!! I'm boycotting Sony
« on: June 01, 2004, 03:34:39 PM »
I've simply had it with Sony's substandard product quality. My PS2 just died. It was working fine and then its dead. My brother's PS2 died, my best friend's died, one of my other friends is on his THIRD PS2, etc. etc. I was telling the girl at my local EB about how poor the quality of the PS1 was and how thankfully I hadn't had any problems with my PS2. She then told me that about half of their PS2's comeback within a few months due to hardware failure. I was a bit perturbed but not as incensed as I was when my PS2 died. My Gamecube gets the majority of my play time. My PS2 has been gatherong dust lately and when I finally want to start up a new quest of Suikoden 3...I get a black screen. No wonder the guys at my local Gamestop and EB don't offer the extended warranty until someone asks about it.

Between myself, my brother and my friends Sony has about an 80% product failure rate. Completely unacceptable! I encourage anyone with similar experiences to refuse to buy Sony's products. Maybe when their pockets get a bit empty they'll learn to make decent consumer electronics. My best friend and my brother intend to by new PS2s....I'm gonna due my best to convince them otherwise. I don't care if its an X-Box or GC but as long as it isn't one of those poorly constructed POS Sony PS2's.

P.S. Sorry about the rant but I'm highly PISSED right now.

Are you getting a disc read error? If so I know a really easy way to fix it- I tried it out on my friends PS2 that wouldn't read anything and now it works perfectly.

My PS2 died two months ago, I called Sony sent it to them to be repaired (got the $90 fee waived I guess I was lucky but I'm sure you could too).  Sent it to them, they sent it back and said they replaced parts, I plug it in and nothing was changed.  I called them up again and bitched them out, asked to talk to their superior and she told me if I sent my PS2 to them again they'd give me a refurbished one free.  So I did that, and now I got a working PS2 again.  Try it!

Nobody judges Sony products by their failure rate anymore. A 100% failure rate is pretty much assured. It's a matter of "when", not "if" it fails.

Figure out the average number of "months" that your friends failed units lasted, and how long the average is that their replacements have been holding up for, and add a few comments about how heavy/light some units use was. That gives the most accurate picture of how crappy Sony is.

I'm about to go punk up some 3rd parties so they don't release games on other hardware, ciao!
