This could be anything.  It might even be that PSO is being released on the PS2.  PSO4 is likely but I don't know how "shocking" that would be.  Unless it did a complete overhaul of the formula like PSO3.  It's worth mentioning that IGN makes no mention of this being Cube news.

They already announced that PSO3 was the final chapter, but a PSO4 is still a possibility.

That's what I'm thinking...Sega said that they would discontinue Phantasy Star ONLINE...I'm betting on a return to the traditional RPG... ^_^

I hope they keep the character creation and expand upon it.  I think thats a huge feature that is not taken advantage of on console rpgs.

With the recent re-uprise of MMOs, I think RPGFreak's theory from the other thread like this is probably it.  WoW is getting stellar reviews, FFXI is a hit, new Everquest is on the horizon...   I just hope that if this is the case, it will be developed from the get go as a console title.  That way we won't have any of the resolution issues that FFXI is having on the ps2...

that would be great but they did say that pso3 is to be the last.  By makin a mmorpg of it , it'll basically still be another pso since its online.  Speakin for myself though, I dont think I'll ever get into mmorpg merely becuase of the fees and required playtime.

I would love an FF:CC style PS game.  I know they are offline playable with 4 players, but the gameplay gets boring.  I want to see a larger world, more of a story involved.   Wouldn't suprise me if it was the shocking return of the O though.

I'm thinking every Phantasy Star ever made, plus a new game, is going to Xbox or PS2 (or PSP =o) with enhancements and no more Phantasy Star games will be released on a Nintendo System ever again. Wait, that wouldn't shock me at all...

Is the shocking news the thing in the gaming life in Japan section over at IGN or is that old?

PSO3 could just be the final chapter in the story that was told in 1&2.  If they do a PSO4 then they would just be doing a new storyline.  But I see the PS series returning to an offline only kind of game.

Sonic Team did say that PSO Episode 3 was the last Part of the story ark, so a PSO2 is very possable, Just don't count on a PSO episode 4.

If anything though I think this "shocking" news will just be more info on Blue Burst, the PC version of EP1&2.
