My Gamecube is making some weird noises
« on: March 16, 2004, 04:32:01 PM »
Last night I was playing Burnout 2 when my gamecube started making noises like it was struggling to read the disc. I think the lens might be dirty because the disc is new. So what should I do to fix it?

First off, you might want to move this thread in the Technical Disscussion area.

What you want to do is try putting your other games in. If they're all having the same problem, chances are the lens is done.

Your best bet is to call Nintendo's repair service (They should have an 800 number on their site) and tell them about it. If you're under warranty, you may be able to get another one free of charge. if not, it might cost a little.

Hope that helps.

If you're still under warranty, I'd get it looked at.  If not and you're not actually experiencing errors, I wouldn't worry about it too much, my GameCube has been making noise for a long time, and I've rarely had problems with any games.

My GCN does the same... I think the lens is slightly out of place, or slightly scratched, so it occasionally hiccups with alot of Data, or Alot of Cut Scenes... But its not under warranty so im not going to pay 80 dollars to get it fixed... Im thinking of riding it out and then just buy a 99 dollar new one.

My Gamecube sounds like it has a bird and a squirrel living inside it.  The squirrel's name is Papaya Squirrel and the bird's name is Carmen. (i love that name)

I've only had a problem with one game, Wind Waker, it just randomly stopped working one day.  And then, just as suddenly, it started working again.  Haven't had a problem since.

if it starts doing it a lot, open the lid and close it back up. If the game gets a "read error" it'll likely freeze... this way it just thinks it got opened up and closed again, which it did.
