The second LCD
« on: March 03, 2004, 02:26:29 PM »
I am hoping for nintendos sake the second lcd looks something like a
small three line backlit blue screen that shows song information,
movie titles and during gameplay the number of goals or lives and so on
with animations and so on..
Whether Nintendo likes it or not people love gagetry now a days
the fancier the shiner or cooler the better the sales will be
most people buy products without a great deal of knowledge about them
and are sucked in by a couple of features.. eg mobile phone
If the 2nd lcd is usefull and practical aswell then theres a big bonus
that will attract technically literate people such as everyone here
What do you think?

i'd prefer the second screen be something useful for gaming.  and i don't mean just showing health, ammo, etc.

this is a system that is supposed to shake up the industry and make new gaming ideas possible.  a shiny blue screen that displays text isn't exactly revolutionary.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

It would be cool if the second screen was also a camera or sensor itself.  Then like anything such as bar codes, TV remotes, images it recognizes, sounds, etc would do cool stuff to the game and you won't know it.

The second screen will be capable of and used for displaying game scenes. They had this example of a soccer game with two perspectives.

I could see a new zelda game that uses both screens to do a two-level puzzle, where you hit controls or move pillars and it affects things on both floors.

Actually ... developers can choose what they want to do with any screen. One of the is tuch screen as confirmed this week.

I really hope to see switch bettwen the screens: somethimes the game will play on both screen, sometime only on one of them.

It will be cool to play on it Wario.Inc ... think, something has fall from the first screen and you need to catch it on the second one :-) that would be cool

It's not sure whether it actually is a touchscreen, a mistranslation or a touchpad like those found on laptops.

I love the idea of the touchscreen/pad!
Imagine the having your gadgets being activated by the touchscreen? Driving Bond's BMW form Tomorrow Never Dies using the touchscreen pad like he does by using the mobile phone; detonating explosives via your 'watch', it gives all sorts of possibilities when it comes to spy action/adventures like Bond.

Mmm.. I believe that this almost sure it is tuch screen. It will be cool if there will be a tuch pad that would be act like analog stick .... dont you think?? then it wont be "pop out" of the console.

blablamaxahamarama:  Wouldn't that be just a wee bit hard to control?  The touch pads on laptops are already frustrating enough, and you only have to navigate in two dimensions.  Using it in 3d would be near impossible.

Yeah, imagine all those greasy finger smudges you'd have to clean up every minute or so!!

I'm still very sceptical about the whole 2 screen thing. I wish it would be one screen instead, and let developers have the option of splitting the screen down the middle. I have a feeling this is what is going to replace GBA, despite what Nintendo "promises".

One screen doesn't fold as nicely as two and would result in less screen area and a lower resolution, let aside that having two screens makes load splitting between processors a lot easier (necessary with such low-power machines).

My name is so tough?  My idea ... is if there will be a controling pad which will act like an analog stick it will have a concaved shape were you place your thumb on it and rotated as necessity.

Nah, I do that with almost everyone's name tht has reocurring letters or a list of numbers (in your case b, l, and a.)  I find it fun. =P

Anyway, if I get what you're saying (not positive i do) then it would not really be a "touch pad" but more of a strange variation of an analog stick.  To me, doing someting like that would only be useful in making the machine look "cooler" without enhancing the gameplay and still making it harder to control. (what I think happened with the concept design for the PSP.  The control pad looks cool, but if you think about it it would make any agme difficult to control, both 2D and 3D).

Of course, I kinda drifted this from a "touch screen" to a "touch pad."  You wouldn't use a touch screen to control, but to just "click" on things (ie buttons on an in game cell phone, like a PDA.)

Who, me?

Sorry if I sounded that way.  I'm actually the complete opposite of that.  Handhelds are keeping 2D alive, and soon there will be nothing left.  Sony announced the PSP, a 3D portable, and now just to keep control of the market Nintendo will have to do the same.  I DON'T want to see 3D on a handheld, ever.  The best games ever were on the NES and SNES and I don't want to see games like those die, even though it's inevitable.

They should just make a portable SNES, and start developing SNES games again.

I too want to see 2D kept alive and I think Nintendo is thinking along the same lines. Maybe the NDS line will be 3D but the GB line will(hopefully) stay 2D and that's why Nintendo won't let the DS replace the GB. Just think of the GB of the future, it will play 2D games on a materiel like that new pliable display that's been developed, while the DS will play 3D games on a more "bulky" handheld design.
