Game Arts - where are you?
« on: March 15, 2004, 09:32:31 PM »
Does any know what Game Arts are up to?  The last I heard of them was last year when Square-Enix bought some stock of Game Arts.  Then there was a rumor that they were both working on a game together.  But it has been awhile since then, and there have been no news or announcements from them.  Is the rumor true?

I'm asking because Game Arts are one of my favourite RPG developers, and I love the Grandia series.  I really hope they will make another Grandia game, so I can get addicted to the battle system again!

I too would love another Grandia game.  1 was good, then 2 was better, I would love to see an all new one on GCN.  And more than just the remake that PS2 got.

If you get a chance, play Grandia Xtreme. It may not be near as good an RPG as 1 or 2, but it is a dungeon crawler, which means you get to use that battle system a lot. I can just sit there for hours running into enemies and fighting them- it truly is the best battle system in a game ever. o_O

Played it/finished it and overall found Xtreme more than disappointing.

Wonder myself if Lunar series will continue or not.

If you like the battle system as much as I do, the game is incredibly fun- I can't get enough of it. ^_^

Mark Hammil doews the voice of the antagonist, too, which gives it bonus points.

Aw man, looks like no one knows the answer to my question.  I hope I hear something at E3 or TGS this year.

Uglydot - the first Grandia game is better than the second.  The story is weak in the second, and follows the very same formula as the first - going into the villian's body to destroy it.  I felt that was lazy on the game designers behalf.  Plus, I really liked the humor and funny cutscenes in the first game!  Sue had the best lines!

Does anyone know if Grandia Xtreme was released in PAL?  Because I don't think it was.  That and Xenosaga would make me really consider getting a PS2.

I played them out of order, so that may be why I had more fun with II.  But regardless, a true third in the series would be great.

So did I.  But after playing the first game, I realised the second wasn't as great.

EDIT: lol, fixed a silly typo i noticed the next day!

I thought Grandia II had a magnificent story- outwardly it was rather cliche, but it had a great message about religion that broke from the general tradition of most RPG's.

You are right about the religion part!  Especially Mareg's lines and what he taught Tio.

grandia 2 is one of my top favorite rpgs- mouse is right- the story is a little cliche, but the religious tone in it is excellent- but one other aspect brought me into the game as well- the characters- this game may have some of the most well developed characters in any game period- this is one of the only games i have played in which tears were brought to my eyes- most notably mareg's scene towards the end, fighting melfice, and my favorite and possibly the most touching scene in the game- sky's revelation of ryudo's past to elena- the characters felt real and because of that i didnt care that the story was cliche- oh and it sports one of the best battle systems in any rpg period

on another note- i heard that in the new egm magazine one of the rumors was that game arts was at work at a sequal to grandia- probably a numerical grandia, and not a dungeon crawler like xtreme (which wasnt all that bad by the way)
i call the big one bitey.
