new speculation on DS i found at egm

I think it will be vr glasses that give you left eye right eye views which creates the illusion of true 3d.  I believe  that they sould take advantage of these and either use tilt tech devices in the glasses or place reflectors on the fronts that are used in conjunction with a dual camera (that's right two cameras) system that can trace our head movements in 3d just like a pair of eyes so we can use our hands for something other than camera control.  The two cameras whether an addon or built into the next system or controller could be able to give the console the correct information for depth perception.

im thinkin your facts might not be quite straight there, i'm pretty sure that someone already announced that it will be two seperate screens to use as different views simultaneously, or to be used as one whole screen if the developer so choosed. i could be wrong, but thats the impression i got.

I don't think they would make you wear VR glasses for a portable system...

You can use the two screens in conjunction to create one image.  Here is the catch; why have two seperate screens with two seperate chips if you aren't planning to display a seperate camera angle in each screen creating the illusion of left/right eye points of view resulting in unbelievable 3d graphical effects.  Once we are able to use depth perception in the game then we can use vr systems that allow us to look in real time in games.  If they wanted developers to be able to do a wide screen camera system then wouldn't it make more sense to use a single wide screen unless Nintendo just has a fetish for thier new flip up system which they want to desperatly conserve for the next handheld allowing them to make it more compact than the PSP yet have a competitive screen size equivalent.

The problems found with the VB must be addressed.  The strain on the eyes must be reduced, it must be very portable and possibly collapsable, it must look cool; and it must secure to the head.  Sony says they want to make the ultimate walkman with the PSP.  This may affect how the new Nintendo portable turns out.

Well, why have two screens and two CPUs if not for VR?
Hm, how about what they said and have two different views (cloaeup&overview, game&stats, mo' space for vert shmups)? They already had the example of one screen showing your player and the other one the whole field. Also I think you need to have both views in the same place (i.e. on one screen) to enable depth perception.

They already anounced that the screens would be top and bottom, not side by side. That negates the VR theory.

How can a developer use the vertical scenerio to create a single view?  I'm pretty sure that anyone with an Ngage will tell you that one tall perspective is not always the best view to have.  I've seen the vertical designs in EGM and on the net.  Most likely those designs are nearly exactly the same as the actual device.

I don't think anyone knows what the DS will look like exactly, so any mock up you see, be they on the internet or in print, are pure speculation.

Llewellyn went on to add that the screens would be aligned vertically, which rules out any possibility of the two screens acting in tandem to create a 3-D image.

Well, the NGage has ONE screen. The DS has two screens which are wider than high, you'd only get a vertical screen by using both as one, which is not the intended purpose of the device.

In the original announcement they said that developers could use the two screens in conjunction to create one screen.  This imediatly brought up the question of why didn't they just make one wide screen?  Thus the only logical explanation is that it would have to be horizontal to be functional.  How would you even use two seperate screens (that are also vertically alligned) as one unless you did some vr gogle setup.  It is possible that the screens will be double functional, but the only way to use them in a vr situation with them alligned vertically would be to have them set up like the Ngage's one screen.  This would mean two tall screens rather than two wide screens in any game that wouldn't use them as gogles.

I think the specualtive designs are pretty close to what Nintendo is aiming at; especially if it doesn't use vr technology.

There was speculation that there might be touch screen functionality, allowing one of the screens to function as a configurable input device.

They said you can use both screens as one, but that's not the intended usage.  Therefore, the device isn't optimized for singlescreen usage, but dual screen. Two verticas screens horizontally aligned would be suboptimal for their intended use as you'd have vertical screens. Hell, Nintendo wants to encourage using both screens, if they opimized it for usage as one screen they could just as well have made a single screen and called it the GBA 2, but that's NOT what they want.

I don't know if it would be technically possible, but what if the DS is intended to be a dual screened system, with the option(for certain games) to plug in VR glasses.  Then the Nintendo DS would truly have Dual uses.  It's probably not going to happen, but still with dual processors, the possibility is there (maybe?).

It's technically possible, but about as likely as VR glasses for, say, the PS3 or N5. PCs can use VR sets with just one graphics processor, so the number of chips definitely isn't an issue.
