Topic: General Quit key combination in GameCube

Hello,

Please forgive this very novice question. We just bought a GameCube for the kids for Christmas and we are trying to learn the basics so we can show them how to play.

In the two games we bought,  Disney Extreme Skate Adventure and Super Mario Sunshine, we had a hard time finding the menu option to quit the game.

Is there a standard key combination on the controller that allows you to quit a game at any time?

Ummm... the power button works for me.  

You see, one of the real beauty elements of a console is that you don't have to exit what you are doing to shut down the console.  On a PC, they make you jump through hoops to shut down your computer, because you have a chance of corrupting the file system if you don't.  On a console, there is no file system to worry about, except on the memory card.  So as long as you don't turn off your console while saving, you should be ok.

As for learning the basics before giving the game to your kids?  I wouldn't really worry about that either.  If they are ordinary kids, they would probably learn the basics quicker than you.  (no offense).

Well, I forgot to mention that we had found out about the power button...



Being used to the PC, we just thought there was another way.

And as for showing the kids how to play, it will be necessary, as they speak only French and most of the games (if not all) are in English.

Their is a way to restart to the main title screen.  This does not turn off the console but like I said before it gets you quickly to the main menu.  The button combination is.... X, Y, B, and start simultaneous.

That only works in some games though correct?  I have used that many times to reset my controller, and it only exits to the title in some games...

What your speaking of is x y and start.  That resets the controller.  X Y B and start resets to the main title screen.
