Gaming Platform Advice
« on: December 11, 2003, 03:43:52 PM »
Anyway, I'm getting my gamcube for christmas, and I have enough money to buy another console.   So anyway what do you think I should get, new pc OR gba sp + xbox OR gba sp + ps2?  I like FPS games on the pc because of the ease aiming is and im missing out on some fun games.  PS2 I had before, some good games like GTA.  Then xbox well, ive played once, its ok but I put that on one of my choices simply because it has a large range of the hit games that come out for PC on there, such as counter strike, ghost recon etc, aiming is just really hard.  So anyway, what choice should I get up there?  Please give me points why, thank you.

I'd get the SP and use the rest of you money for GC/GBA games...

I'm not sure which to recommend.. PS2 has alot of RPGs but only a couple have turn out to be any good, in my opinion. XBox has ummm, other stuff like PCesque games and D&D RPGs... I guess I'll just list the games I've enjoyed on both systems (exclusive only)

PS2

Disgaea: Hour of Darkness ~ a REALLY fun Tactical RPG. La Pucelle is due out mid '04, which is by the same company and appears to be using the same engine
Devil May Cry ~ Really stylish and quite fun.
Activison Anthology ~ Old school goodness!
Sly Cooper ~ Short but fun.
Kingdom Hearts ~ Donald and Goofy are the best Disney characters.
Dark Cloud ~ A little repetitive, but it was still good.

The rest I've played are mediocre or... crappy ::cough:: FFX ::cough:: MGS2 ::cough::

On the horizon we have Dragon Warrior V remake, Dragon Warrior VIII, and Final Fantasy XII

XBox

Panzer Dragoon Orta ~ My favorite XBox game, its fun and it is damn good looking
Halo ~ Plenty of fun to be had here, singeplayer is good (especially with CoOp)
Morrowind ~ it is massive and can be pretty fun, it'll get a little monotonous though

On the horizon ~ Fable (looks fun if somewhat convoluted, and perhaps perverted), and Halo 2
"Plan Your Strategy. Build an Army. Trust No One."

The fact alot of xbox games are available for the pc, well actually most of the good ones, makes me kind of ward away from it.  I dont really enjoy many RPG games.  I think I may go with what you said, thank you.  I appreciate the response.

Well if you like FPS games, then the PC would be your best bet. Xbox gets alot of decent support when it comes to FPS and well, PC games in general. But there's the whole control pad only issue. Aiming in Halo was clumsy and annoying on the standard Xbox pad.

PlayStation 2 has ALOT of GREAT, original games that most people tend to ignore. (OMG LETS FOCUS ON GTA AND BASH THE PS2 COZ IT'S FOR MAINSTREAM GAMERS HRHRHR) It too has a fair few FPS, but they suffer. They're often pretty crap compared to the PC/Xbox version (because nobody puts time into ports these days, just look at the shoddy job Rockstar did on Max Payne 2 for PS2). But then, the PS2 supports a USB mouse, and all the decent FPS games support it (TimeSplitters 2, Red Faction 2, stuff).

GBA SP? Unless you're on the run ALOT, just get a Game Boy Player for the GameCube.

The PS2 game list is way overrated when it comes to my picky taste...The last game I got was Ratchet & Clank, and I don't plan on getting another until the Dragon Warrior V remake comes out...(Wait, I also plan on finally getting GGXX...Ever since I first played it earlier this year it's been on my list...I never seem to have enough money, though )

Yeah the controller with fps is what drives me away from it.  I never knew you could use a usb mouse on the ps2.  That is pretty cool, still I'd rather just buy the pc verson of the game or somthing similar for it on the pc instead of paying 200 dollars for a console i might no enjoy.  The only game i really ever really enjoyed on PS2 were GTA and Dark Cloud, the other ones were ok.  I havnt looked at the games for awhile so i was hoping someone might bring one up that interests me.  Really making this thread makes me happier i chose a gamecube.    Thank you again for the input.  I am on the go fairly often, and playing a gameboy game just isnt the same when playing it on a tv screen haha.  One of the games for gba that looks really cool is the sims game.  Haha I dunno why it just does.  Anyway again thanks.  Im leaning towards getting a gba and gamcube games.
