Cartridge cases
« on: December 20, 2003, 07:05:54 PM »
I've had my SP for a couple weeks now and I've got the urge to start buying accessories. But I'm going to restrict myself to things I'll really use. And to kick off my purchasing, I was thinking about something to put my games in. What does everyone use to protect their cartridges? At the moment I put loose ones inside the bags they came in, but that won't hold up, even in a pocket by itself. I was looking at individual cartidge cases, but I'm not sure they're worth the few bucks. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

you know... the cartridge itself can be thought of as a case?  Frankly, I really don't see the need for having a case to put your case in, as that thought seriously disturbs and boggles me.

I would suggest just buying a bottle of Royal Crown or something, and using that felt thingy it comes in as a case if you are really all that concerned.

Dust, liquids, ESD. All very bad things for cartridges.

Come on now.  I have friends who only have about half of the cartridge left that was sold to them, and it still works.  I know that I have dumped all manner of stuff on my carts, and they still work perfectly fine.  I can't count the number of times that I have uploaded a seriously large amount of static electricity to my carts.  It's never even erased the save file.  As for the game itself?  That's located on a ROM, and is even MORE difficult to erase, no matter how big the ESD.  As for dust?  That's nothing a quick blow into the cart won't fix.

Seriously.  You underestimate the durability.

"you know... the cartridge itself can be thought of as a case?"

I don't know if it was intentional or not, but that comes off as condescending.

"Come on now."

That too.

Maybe I'm just being overly paranoid. Got any polite contributions to offer? How much static did you "upload" to your cart's contacts?

it most likely was intentional.  grey ninja can be like that.  but he has some other redeeming qualities so we keep him around.

as grey was saying, you don't really need a case for your carts.  you can buy cheap plastic cases if you want--i think both pelican and madcatz make some.  they're usually in the neighborhood of a buck each.  but they're totally unnecessary.  i've never had a problem with a cart loosing data or becoming unreadable--this includes games for my snes, n64, gameboy, gameboy color and gameboy advance.  only ones i've ever had a problem with were the original nes carts, but that was the fault of connectors getting dirty/worn in the system itself, not the cartridges.

i think you'd be better off saving your money on cartridge cases and getting a case for your sp.  i've said it before on this forum, i highly recommend the case from madcatz.  it's made of hard plastic so it protects the system very nicely.  it also can hold up to 4 carts, so they helps in solving your cartridge storage problem.  you can find it for something like $15, bundled with a car charger, headphone adaptor, and the cheapest pair of headphones ever made.  worth every penny.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I'm using the cases from my GB games. The SP doesn't look that new after being in my schoolbag (which can make anything look bad after a day or two), but I think that can be washed off (seriously).

What does everyone use to protect their cartridges?

I've found that Fererro Rocher boxes work great for holding GameBoy Color games. The clear plastic ones you get with the 8-piece ones. They might do okay for GameBoy Advance games.

I use some MadCatz cases called GameBLOX (lame name I know).

http://ebgames.com/ebx/product/234079.asp

They link together so if you have a bunch of games you don't need to dig around to find them.  Just keep them all linked together, and pop off the ones you are going to take with your.  The only thing I don't like about them is you can't buy a pack of just one color.  All the packs I have seen have had two clear, 3 blue, and 3 black cases.  You can see threw all of them, but it is near impossible to read the labels on any games in the black ones.  The clear ones are the best, but you only get two of them in a freaking pack.  But at $4.99 it is only like $.60 per case.  I have gotten two sets.  I am putting my newer, more played games in the clear ones, and my older games in the blue ones.  I don't have enough games to even have to use the black ones yet, but in a few months I am sure I will get four more games.  Right now there are ten in the cases and one in my SP.  They make about to be about 6-7 inches long when they are linked up, and as long as you aren't swinging them around it holds pretty well.

Plus you can do the wave with them, and they make a cool flippy noise .

ahahahah that's exactly what i use, if i had a camera or something i would take a picture and show you. so yeah, i can definatly validate this, get your self some fererro rocher's and throw away the contents and keep teh box!

oh yeah, you could find a big enough jewlery box also, that would work fine.

Throw them away, God are you crazy?  Those are the best candies ever, well second only to Godiva Chocolates, which are the best in existance.  Instead of throwing them away, send them to me.
