I probably spent significantly more time on Spirit Tracks, but I go back and forth between 3DS and Phat DS for nostalgia reasons. Yes, I'm nostalgic for the ugly, dimly-lit, clunky original DS that looks like something you'd see lying around inside of a Jawa Sandcrawler. Btw, this is my second 3DS, and the Activity Log did not transfer over, unfortunately. If it did, there would have been a lot more time on the original Steamworld Dig and Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords.

Of these games, I'd recommend Picross (it's free!) and Metroid. Radiant Historia I've soured on a bit in retrospect, and Retro City Rampage just... Isn't a very good game after the first hour, sadly.

I don't think I've ever put as much time into any game as Pokepal has with a bunch of theirs, I feel like even my Smash Melee plateaud around 200-250 hours and we lived that game back when it was out.

Alright. Now let's note a few things. Interestingly, if I had posted my list when this topic was created, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask would not be appearing on my list at all. All of that came about in the past few months as I played through that game and all its DLC puzzles.

Titles Played is a bit deceptive. Some of that includes stuff like E3 trailer videos that could be downloaded back in the 3DS's early years or just popping in a used game I bought to make sure it worked. Just doing a minute for that adds it to the list of titles.

Although most have pretty much been doing a top 10 list, I wanted to go top 20 because I just felt it allowed for more diversity in titles being represented. (Although it seems any users who don't play Pokemon seem to have a more varied list than those that do.)

Average Playtime is the only area where not only does New Leaf not dominate, it doesn't even appear on the list! That's because there were many days that were just a 10 - 15 minute check-in which brings that average way down. The Average list is also dominated by a lot of titles I played in the early years of the 3DS when I didn't have that many games to play or things like Streetpass and Badge Arcade to make me stop any software I was in to load those up for awhile for their daily check-in. Even some old DS titles showing up on the list. Although I don't use the 3DS for DS titles like I used to at first, part of me still debates using the system for them just to keep track of the stats like these for those games since the DS won't. It's crazy how many of those averages are so close to each other and just a minute or two is the difference between a lot of them and where they placed on the rankings.

Although this is supposed to be app free, as you can see, my play frequency is pretty much dominated by apps. I guess having them ready to go on the system made it easier to load them more frequently. The System Settings one is tied very much to my New Leaf number as I was often manipulating the date and time for catching up or going back. Likewise, Notifications was often in checking up on newly acquired streetpass tags. Miss that Miiverse on 3DS. Thought it fit better on that system than the Wii U particularly once the New 3DS system arrived. Swapnote and Nintendo Video are both dead but I used them a lot while they lived. Nintendo Badge Arcade has a good shot at getting the top three and even number one considering how much more there is for me to collect in that game. Nintendo Zone Viewer managed to crack the top 20 (or 21) thanks to a tie. I should break that by loading Megamix up quickly. However, Mario Golf: World Tour will be cracking that top 20 pretty soon as that is the current 3DS game I'm playing in between rounds of Badge Arcade.

That said, I have a second 3DS that I've used for some games including CrossworDS Plus and New Leaf. I wonder if I checked that system and added those numbers to these where that would put those games?

I've probably asked this before, but what do you find appealing about something like the Badge Arcade? There's not much to actually do in it. Though I guess with the way you played Animal Crossing, the answer is probably simply that you have an addictive personality, hee hee.

Eep... me too!  It's a good thread idea, but I wasn't using my 3DS very much when it got posted and then I just kind of forgot to come back later.

I also have spent way too much time with Badge Arcade... but it kind of became a morning habit to flip in and get a few badges. Actually, I like having the option to decorate my screen sometimes too - although it's really just Animal Crossing, Mario, and Pikmin badges that I ever end up using.

The one thing I don't do with badge arcade is spend money... but as a purely free activity it's pretty ok in my books.

I did download it when it first came out and played it for a few days but the whole thing just seemed to embody that mobile gaming cliche of micro-transactioning the player to death with how it just seemed to always leave you one play short to finish a catcher. I also didn't really care that much about decorating my 3DS with badges so I just stopped using it and continued on with Streetpass games and trying to complete them. Before Miiverse closed, I remember seeing Kairon post pictures of actually completing Badge Arcade and getting all the badges in Nintendo Badge Arcade and he said he didn't spend anything to do it. That stuck with me and, when I decided to start clearing through a bunch of the games I had downloaded on my 3DS from the eShop last year, I saw this app still sitting there and finally felt like loading it up and trying it again. If I still hated it then I wanted it off my menu. However, for some reason, the second time around has caused it to click with me. It has become a daily ritual for me replacing Streetpass to keep plugging away at with Streetpassing pretty much dead in my area. Yes, it can be frustrating sometimes in how it deals out free plays or how a catcher can play out but I've been slowly chipping away at it anyways and there have been some days where that's all I played for the day. It's a quick activity and, even though I'm nowhere close to getting them all, I have made some progress in completing a few series and haven't grown tired of it yet.

That said, I've begun to doubt that Kairon actually did collect them all without spending money since there are some badges you can only get by spending money for. I have dropped some money into at this point in order to finish up a few themes. It usually seems like there are one or two sets in a theme that need 5 plays to complete and you just can't rely on getting the red bonus badge the same day one of those themes may pop up. I suppose my badge count may be higher if I always just went after catchers I haven't tried yet but I've focused on a couple themes and trying to complete them. So, I've got a lot of untouched as well in the game but it just seemed the best way to make progress was to focus on specific sets for awhile.

Agree that it seems unlikely anyone could get all badges without ever paying - there are a bunch of the screens that seem to be actively designed to require a full 5 tries to get everything. Most of them you can get by splitting your focus, so if it comes up a few times you can clear everything out... but there are some where I just don't see how that can be done. (But I admit to kind of sucking at these types of games.)

This probably isn't the right place to discuss, but does it bum anyone else out that StreetPass is essentially dead, and any purple puzzle pieces you are missing from will never be found?  I've got every piece I can through play coins; Nintendo should really provide a way for people to get the missing pieces!

It depends what you want to do in them or how interested you are in a game but one could put any amount of time in a game. I've probably spent way more time in Mario Sunshine than some of these games with how much I've replayed that.

In any case, that's what it took me with those games. One thing I'll admit about myself as well is that I'm probably the type of gamer that likes to take their time and explore every part of a game. For instance, in Phoenix Wright, even though I may know exactly how to press a witness or how I should proceed, I'll often go through each part of the testimony and press on it just to read all the written dialogue created. Sometimes, I may halt progress on the main quest/storyline because I want to clean up some other loose ends I passed before I forget about them. So, your mileage may vary as they say when it comes to someone else playing these games.

For Sticker Star, in addition to beating the main quest, there were some sidequests like the Sticker Museum and Super Flags so I accomplished all those tasks which added to the length a bit. There was only one time I needed to use a FAQ because I was stuck but generally tried to solve everything in game which may have lead to some trial and error further lengthening the game.

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D - After you beat the game there is Mirror Mode and collecting all the KONG letters again makes them go from blue to red. I didn't complete Mirror Mode on it yet but I did get caught up on trying to get some shiny gold medals on the time trials for levels before finally tiring of that again like I did on the Wii version. Those things added to my playtime there.

Chibi-Robo Photo-Finder - This time is probably inaccurate for actual content. There were quite a few times where the game was running while I was searching for things to use to take photos with or get the lighting just right. This is also a game where there is very little information for it and I had some questions about it so it lead to a lot of experimentation. Basically, it seems like there should have been an end boss but no one has ever come across one. I was trying different things to see if they might be considered as necessary to complete in order to trigger an end boss and become the first to discover it. However, I finally walked away from it and accepted that the game just has some odd moments. (Although there still about 4 pictures I was hoping to get 100% on.)

Pilotwings Resort - Getting the above Perfect scores for missions meant replaying a lot of missions to get perfect landings but in the end I did so and completed all modes of the game. I think I also just played around in the free flight mode from time to time because I really like the 3D effect when the system was new.

Majora's Mask - Acquiring all heart pieces and equipment added to the length of the journey. Plus, it was my first time playing it so I took my time exploring it all and figuring out what things did and where to go and making mistakes so having to do things over. This is the usual amount of time a Zelda game seems to take me. I think TP was around 65 hours and 50 some hours seems right for OoT when I first played those games.

Rhythm Heaven Megamix - Oh man. Having never played a Rhythm Heaven game, this is totally worth it. Definitely a lot of content for a newcomer. Some of it can be kind of pointless if you don't care about collecting the items and songs for each rhythm game but I did it all. There is a learning curve to the game as you have to play and practice through some songs to get better at them or learn how the beat count works. Then there are further challenges to make some of these games tougher. To my annoyance, I hit a challenge I just couldn't beat. Couldn't seem to press the buttons fast enough to pass the section I needed which led me to finally drift away from the game. Still think about going back to it from time to time since I was getting close to getting all the badges and kind of wanted to unlock some hidden Warioware games to see what they were like. But yes, I think it is worth price and does have enough content / challenge to warrant this amount of time.

Pocket Card Jockey - I didn't think I had put that much time into this game but I guess I did. There's a lot of failure involved with PCJ. You early horses will be weak so early races are a struggle. Plus, there's a lot of luck involved at times with the cards you are dealt. Over time, you can hopefully breed more powerful horses to get better but even then you can still fall victim to a bad hand of solitare. Main thing I wanted to do was win all the trophies and finally got that done. Despite the time put in, there were still course records I wasn't able to beat because of the luck factor. The game also has an unclear bit of story and narratives which seem to unfold based on winning trophies making for a very jerky start-and-stop feel and leaving you unsure of whether you've seen it all or there is more to the game.

Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask - If you like puzzles then this game is stacked with them. By the time I finished the main game and all the bonus puzzles and collected all the collectables in it, I was probably around the 45 hour mark. However, the game has 365 free DLC puzzles and solving all of those nearly doubled my time spent on the game. That said, a good chunk of time on this game would have been me trying to work out and figure out the solution to a puzzle. There was one I many have spent 8 - 10 hours on before finally throwing in the towel and looking up the answer. So, depending on how much time you want to spend stuck on a puzzle, others could probably shave off a good 20 hours from my playtime.

Love reading all these lists, I wish the Wii U had an auto-sort feature too. Zelda Breath of the Wild and Netflix will definitely dwarf the rest of my playtimes on there, but it'd still be fun to see the rest. I think Smash U and Tokyo Mirage Sessions might fight for third place?

I have never played a Professor Layton game so I don't know exactly what they entail. However, I did think they were linear story-based puzzles, so I didn't expect any of the games to be very lengthy or have reasons to replay them. Having some extra downloadable content would also add a lot onto that as well. I do own two of the games for DS however, so I should really get around to playing those and seeing what that series is all about.

Chibi-Robo Photo-Finder

I think I was partially just surprised that someone even played this game! And also that a cheaper download would take very long to complete. I've never really seen anyone talk about this game other than being disappointed in what they're doing with Chibi-Robo, so I actually don't really know anything about it other than using the cameras, and it doesn't surprise me you had trouble finding information on the game since it appears to be largely ignored and / or hated.

Rhythm Heaven Megamix

I did play the Wii game and went for every perfect in it, which took some time but not this much. But if this game contains every minigame from the series then I could see that taking a while to perfect all of those, especially if things worked the way it did in Fever.

I had noticed the problems you mentioned when I tried the demo for this game and that's a large part of what turned me away from buying it. It isn't just the large randomness factor (though it isn't really the fun kind of randomness here), but there were times where even when I did as well as could possibly be played, I still didn't win. It all just feels like ways to artificially extent the game, and it's just a one-trick pony (or horse...?) that it gets old really quickly. There's way too much monotony here.

I was looking through my activity log and then remembered this thread existed and wondered if I ever posted in it. It turns out I never did get around to posting my own list, so let's get to that now! Unfortunately, as I discovered the tough way, the 3DS log starts to glitch out once 256 titles are played, filling up the book. There may be some games missing and some times may not be totally accurate, though I don't think anything's missing from the top 20 at least. If I had known about this before then I wouldn't have been trying every demo that rolled around. Oh well.
