"Who Are You?" Theater Trailer
« on: October 13, 2003, 03:20:00 PM »
Check out the commercial Nintendo will be airing in movie theaters all over America this fall.

Nintendo's official website has posted its upcoming theatrical trailer for the new "Who Are You?" advertising campaign.  You can download the sixty-second trailer in three formats by going to the link above.

The ad takes place entirely in Japan and shows schoolchildren rushing out of class after a long day at school.  They all seem to be racing somewhere, and some students exhibit powers like flight and enhanced agility.  Finally, everyone congregates in front of a store that has just begun selling Nintendo games.  An employee posting the sign turns to look at the crowd, whose heads have now been replaced with the heads of various Nintendo characters.

Nintendo also has a new website devoted to the marketing campaign, which you can view at http://www.nintendo.com/whoareyou.

Thanks to SuperLink666 for the tip!

Yah, that kid recovering from the bus hit was definitely the "killer app" of this trailer.

Because of Nintendo's "kiddy" image I think it probably would have been better to use High School aged kids but other wise it was a very good commercial.

Eh?  I didn't see that....  The shopkeeper was putting up a sign that said that they sell Nintendo games.  I was actually surprised at the very generic nature of that.

that commercial was good in the sense that they likened the children to being the characters they so adore.  however i question them showing children running, flying, and most importanlty running atop a train/subway.  i just hope i don't hear about some kid dying or getting seriously hurt attempting the stunts performed successfully by the children onscreen.  entertaining yes, but young children don't know the difference between reality and fantasy.

the whole who are you campaign is nice and fresh, something nintendo needs.
but using images of videogame characters in images of places like the berlin wall falling should not be done.  they undermine and trivalize their history and importance.

Man, I went to the website and started to play around with the make your own tape-up page.  I was cracking up.  Now that's a cool way to advertise, with fun little flash games.

I enjoyed to commercial.

But I also guess that there will be some stupid unguided soul that will try it. And some parent is going to blame Nintendo for every thing, especially their ineptude at showing their child the difference between fantasy and reality.
Stupidity is lost on my. Then again I'm almost always lost.
