Square-Enix not giving enough? I think KH on GBA is enough!
« on: September 25, 2003, 03:38:30 AM »
"V-Jump magazine has revealed one of Square Enix's new titles for the Tokyo Game Show, being Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories for the Game Boy Advance! Is anyone else excited to see this one?"

Link!

It seems we will be getting our own version of Kingdom Hearts!  Hopefully they will put a lot of effort into it.  I'm sure everyone is surprised that they didn't wait to put it out on the PSP.  (Predicts Square fans rushing out to buy GBA:SPs )

Chain of Memories... Maybe that's a silent threat directed towards the PSP?

This is great news!!!  Can Super Mario RPG be far behind?  (Quietly, No #7 thinks to himself that we will probably hear about that one before the end of the year.)

Can't wait to see what else Sqaure-Enix has in store for us.  (cautiously wonders if some of the incredible rumors are true)

It's going to be a great year for gaming!

I don't think anybody has a problem with Square's GBA support- it's been great thus far, and there doesn't seem to be any indication of it letting up any time soon. It's their Gamecube support that's lackluster- all we have so far is Crystal Chronicles, and although it looks like a blast, I get the distinct feeling that Square only made it as one of the stipulations of developing GBA games.

Ah well, GBA support's looknig great.

yeah, i'm pretty sure the only reason square made final fantasy:cc is so nintendo would allow them to make gba games. i'm pretty much expecting square to pump out numerous games for the gba, but very little for gamecube. i dont really think they will do another game for gc after ff:cc actually, but i'm hoping that i'm wrong.

as for kingdom hearts, gamerfeed is saying that it appears to be a card battle game. i cant say that interests me much, but i'll wait untill more is released on the game before making judgement.

Yep.  That one extra announced game over the GCN support truly makes all the difference.  After Game Designer's Studio finished Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, of course the development team went back to making PS2 games and aren't making any more GCN games.  Square's GCN support is done.  Finished.  But hey, that one extra game on GBA is really great isn't it?

(And before anyone asks me this time, YES, for god's sakes, I am being sarcastic.  Of course I think Square is making another GCN game.)

Weeeeellll, Square-Enix can dump other franchises onto the GCN (*cough Dragon Warrior, Chrono someting Cough*) but that's just my quirky mind at work.

I would have once agreed with you.  But not after playing Chrono Cross or Final Fantasy IX.  I vote to kill both franchises and give us something new.  I very much appreciate Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, as it's a Final Fantasy in name only, and makes no pretense about that.

I just want another game in the vein of Parasite Eve/Vagrant Story I think.

Not like Chrono Cross...I want something along the lines of Chrono Trigger...As long as it feels like CT, I don't even care if it's a new franchise

I guess if you want to expand my statement, yeah, if Square-Enix doesn't want to dump their 'baby' (Or Babies as it be), why not use the GCN as the road less traveled? FF:CC is a great example, KH2 as well (Though on GBA). As long as it isn't stange like SaGa...

On a side note, I remember that Vagrant Story was supposed to be part of a trilogy. Did that ever get completed? If not, they could give it a home on the GCN or N5, but who am I to dictate what a company should and shouldn't do?

Front Mission Damn it. Grrr. Not the original SNES craptasic versions. Big multi Dozen Wanzer battles wanted on GCN now.

I hope you're right, Ninja, but all signs for me point to no. There's the fact that they haven't even announced any new Gamecube games besides Crystal Chronicles, compared to, what is it now, something like 6 GBA games? And I don't think it's a coincidence that what is currently Square's only Gamecube game makes extensive use of the GBA-GCN link up feature. It's not the 1 game that made all the difference, it was the 5 other games. Like I said, I hope you're right Ninja, but I see absolutely no indication to support that notion (especially if FF:CC doesn't sell too well).

And personally, I enjoyed Chrono Cross VERY much, just as much, if not more so, than Chrono Trigger. Chrono Trigger was a wonderful game, esily one of my favorite RPG's ever, but I got into Chrono Cross much more easily and I felt more engrossed in it than Chrono Trigger. I would be very happy for another Chrono game.

Ah, ah, ah *waves finger*

I wouldn't pass judgement so swiftly.  Production Team 2 is working on a secret project.  Production Team 2 is funded by Fund Q.  Get the picture?

What's Production Team? I've never heard of them, and to the best of my knowledge, only GDS was getting money from Fund Q. Besides. Fund Q sponsors GBA developers, too- just because a company is getting some money from it doesn't mean they're making a Gamecube game. In fact, I'd be more inclined to believe they'd be making a GBA game since they're not only cheaper to make but have greater sales potential.
