N5 "delayed"

It's not sure the N5 will be released in 05, N assumes Sony and MS won't release until 06 anyway so they planned in more time for development. They still plan to release ahead of the competition, though.

Nintendo needs to release at the same time as Sony or a little before. There is no point in releasing a year a head. If they have more time then that also means they can have more games ready at launch. I think that a head to head launch with supperior launch titles is better than a year head start with no good games.

Plus the Cube is still a great system. More time before N5 also means more great titles on the GCN.

It wont bother me.  Developers are just now really starting to tap into the current hardware.  Look what Factor5 is doing, even better looking than the last Star Wars, with a smoother framerate (which in my eyes goes along way).  I feel that Seeing as how Cube could really end strong.  With a price drop this year to $99, and maybe another in late 2004, or early 2005.  Sell the hardware as cheap as you can.  Nintendo should try to get Cubes in the homes which already have PS2 and X-box, and the easiest way to do that is sell the hardware cheap.  I have heard that a price drop to $99 is gonna happen soon.  Nintendo seems to be on the right track, when Sony releases new hardware, nintendo should do the same.  If Sony doesnt release new hardware until 2006, GOOD!  That means better launch titles for nintendo.

Does Sony have a release date yet?  Or even confirmed a year?

I'm actually glad it is delayed. I won't have to fork over another 200-300 bucks for another system for a while. I'll be old enough to preorder and afford all of this. Besides...to many great games for Cube to be going to n5 now.

.... Isn't the register a little ify (not like any place else is) on gaming insider news?

And it kind of hard to delay a system that doesn't even have release date. And we also much remember that the register is in the UK.
Stupidity is lost on my. Then again I'm almost always lost.

1. The Reg states gameindustry.biz as a source, they seem to be trustworthy, though mostly focussed on the view of the investors. The info given there was often the same as that on PGC, though they only cover business descisions.
2. I put delayed in quotation marks because yes, it wasn't officially announced for 05. Nonetheless, it was put back to a later "date" than initially assumed.
3. The only things known about Sony are that the Cell won't be finished until 07 and that this is too late for an inclusion into the PS3.
