Current CV series producer Koji Igarashi (the MAN) recently said (I´m obviously paraphrasing here, folks; I can´t give you a link but it´s NOT something I made up) that he´ll produce another action game along the lines of the upcoming Lament of Innocence (think of the old TMNT arcade/NES games having full frontal intercourse with Devil May Cry and you´ll get a rough notion as to how this baby will probably play) to get a grasp of 3D gaming mechanics.
By then (and this is pure speculation) its safe to assure that the next generation of gaming consoles will be at its budding stage. Nintendo will want to secure as much good games for its new console as possible, and its a safe bet that an Igarashi 3D Castlevania will be a "good" if not "drop your pants and worship your new deity" game. And, Nintendo has traditionally been THE Castlevania console (doesn´t anyone find ironic the fact that what´s widely regarded to be the best game in the series , Nocturne in the Moonlight, is available on all the consoles of the generation, except for the Nintendo one?) so a glorious return of Castlevania to Nintendo home consoles is a tantalizing and not too far-fetched, possibility. After all, the new CV games are just what the doctor ordered for Nintendo, with Kojima´s hip (if not a tad too effeminate) art direction and deep gameplay. Hell, they could even make a 2D Dracula X (Metroid-style) MMORPG to jump start what could possibly be Nintendo´s online plans (the new Castlevanias have the most entertaining battle systems of any action/RPG)!
