Interview with designer

Sorry, there's a giant post at the top of the forum saying not to post the text of articles like this.  Pay attention to the rules, or you'll be kicked out of here. -Bloodworth

What do you think about TC. Personally, I think TC will take GTA's crown. With the right advertisment, this game can sell millions.

Now, do you think it will sell on the Gamecube, and will Nintendo help advertise this game. This game could help Nintendo sell consoles and their image.

It sucks how the developer hardly mentions the cube and doesnt seem to try to use it very much unlike they do with the Xbox.

Well, this is how I see it. If they deliver on even half on what they've promised then it'll be better than GTA. The graphics are looking better, the world is bigger, and the voice-acting will be better. Christopher Walken, anyone? Plus Luxoflux worked on Vigilante 8 so the driving should be tight.
Now if they can deliver on the big things they've promised (great fighting engine, weapons in either hand, shooting while driving, etc.) and most importantly the branching storyline then this game should be considered for Game of the Year. I love the idea of a guy who escapes from you coming back later to kill you whereas maybe your friend succeeded in killing the guy and thus doesn't have to worry about him.
I'm hopeful about this game and it sucks that they delayed it back to November but if it makes the game better than I'm for it. I've already pre-ordered so I'm good to go.

The world is MUCH bigger- I watched an interview with the director who noted that Los Angeles in True Crime is 16 times the size of Liverty City or Vice City and 6 times the size of London from the Getaway. And the best part is through some weird way of generating the city it doesn't have to load a thing as you explore it, like you did in GTA. This game's got a lot of potential (and has actually been in development longer than GTA3), which I think they'll deliver.

you think that it might do something similar to Metroid Prime where it loads areas without you really seeing the load time? like how Metroid Prime was constantly loading data
I'll shut up now...

this game could easily take gta's crown if it turns out alright
in the new egm they give some information on the aspects of the game- driving, shooting, fighting
they said that there are multiple paths through the whole story-
the developer said to egm that there were 100 missions in the game, but by taking different paths, you could only have to play 40 or so
and there are unique crimes taking place on the streets at random which you can bust
if the game is polished and well marketed, then maybe it could be as good as gta
but then again, it could turn into another the getaway (ps2- no where near as good as gta, but the story is well crafted)
i call the big one bitey.

well, the getaway just sucked because it was too ambitious but not a game, more like a badly controlled B Movie

anyways, I just hope that the GCN version doesnt look too bad, If it looks worse than the PS2 version Ill kill myself

I think I read somewhere that that feature is a product of the disc technology the Gamecube uses and that it's impossible to do on the PS2 or XBox since they use a DVD medium. I could be wrong, though.

I don't think thats true.

If it were, wouldn't a dvd movie have to load completely before viewing? And I sincerly doubt that happens.

Well, whether it's possible or not, I don't think MP- style loading would work with TC - it worked in MP because every single room was separated from every other by doors, and the game could load whatever door you opened.  You can't do that in a city - you are able to see in all directions.  They could do some kind of technique where it loads it as you go, but it wouldn't work like MP's.

Anyway, the game sounds awesome.  I'm glad that this time you get to be a cop instead of a criminal.  I mean, GTA3 sounded like an awesome game, but the idea of killing random people and slaughtering cops doesn't appeal to me.  I just want the huge, open environments with lots of stuff to do.  I really hope this game doesn't go with the extreme... "mature" theme of GTA.

Yet I wonder if it won't fall prey to Morrowind syndrome - I mean, with an environment that huge, will they really be able to come up with enough content to make it interesting wherever you go?  (keep in mind, I like Morrowind, I just wish it was more compact).

I didnt play Morrowind, but I understand your worry, I mean, LA is HUGE, and when they say the game area is 16 times (as one of you stated before) as big as GTA Vice City, how are you ever going to cover that much ground. Although the game area in Mafia is pretty huge, definitely bigger than GTA and that game turned out awesome.

I don't think its Morrowind huge. If you really wanted to walk across the land by yourself, if you were strong enough to even make it against creatures, and go above moantains, through water, etc. it would probably take at least an hour.

I don't and wouldn't expect True Crime to be thaaat big. Although I think they will be able to have enough content. I mean, if it isn't, were they just sitting around playing with their dicks for the past 2 years?

maybe they were fiddling with their dicks onehanded, and used the other one for programming

anyway, back to the point, mouse clicker claims that the world is 6 times bigger then the getaway and 16 times bigger than GTA Vice City, that is friggin huge, I mean, it took me days to find my way around GTA 3, GTA Vice City was almost too big to find my way around

and think about it, if the games area is as big as LA or atleast as big as major city, wouldnt you have difficulty getting around?
dont you people that live in citys have a hard time outside your neighbourhood (when it comes to finding around)?
thats a problem I see coming, they must atleast have a map

?  I never had any trouble getting around in Morrowind, but I do wish there was more variety in the 'dungeons' and I wish more and harder monsters were introduced after like level 25...

If they make the game detailed enough and each area unique, it shouldn't be too hard to navigate.  If it all looks the same and there isn't a good map it will be very difficult though...

Supposedly the representation of LA is so accurate you could go buy any street map of the city to find your way around.

I don't know. I think the developers screwed up with the soundtrack. It's all Rap. What happened to variety?
The game does look impressive, though. The environment is VERY interactive. Arcade machines can be smashed up, tables can be picked up and thrown, fancy little kicks can send chairs or pot plants sailing at someone's head...

And yeah, the game world is massive. Much bigger than GTAIII, Vice City, Getaway or Mafia. But will that come at a cost? Will we have loading screens every few moments while driving?

But also, I'm really annoyed that they decided to add bullet time to the game. It was never going to have that, but no, now we have it. OH WOW, MATRIX HAS IT, WE NEED IT FOR NO DAMN REASON. Watch as I, a normal human slows time down and shoots all the bad guys! Yay! Where's my stereo? NEED TO BLAST PEOPLE WITH RAP MUSIC.
