Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games!
« on: June 25, 2016, 04:46:45 PM »
All the fun of Rio with out the Zika virus and murdered wildlife! It's Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games!

I picked this up yesterday instead of TMS as I don't have the time to devote to a massive RPG right now. No worries-- I'll get it down the road! Anyway, I'm having a good time with it. The main mode has you using your Mii to compete against other Miis to win medals and if you perform a special task in a given event, you get an extra prize. Along the way you face bosses like Zavok and Diddy Kong to earn the right to play as them in the event you beat them in at, plus you get AWESOME Mario and Sonic series remixes!

I hope to take some screenshots to share them with you, my NWR pals, as I'll probably be the only person regularly contributing to this topic! Yes!

My older brother and I took to some cooperative gameplay, playing the main solo mode together, where you play as your Mii. Here, you compete in various events through progressively more difficult qualifiers, semifinals, and finals in hopes of gaining medals. Along the way, there are special challengers that desire to take you on, and beating them enables them for play in that event you beat them in.

This game is a blast in co-op, or at least with someone to play with. If you don't have anyone local to play with, Mario & Sonic's latest isn't right for you at full retail. Wait till it comes down in price, especially if you are curious in trying the game. A special incentive is that all of the games utilize button controls instead of motion controls of all the past console Mario & Sonic entries. I hope to post some screenshots in the next couple days.

Is there a game where the characters have to outrun mosquitos carrying the Zika virus?

Is there a game where the characters have to survive the crumbling and half built infrastructure of Olympic venues?

Is there a game where the characters have to swim through the heavily contaminated and nearly raw sewage of Guanabara Bay?

Is there a game where the characters have to fight protestors upset at the cost of the games and economic corruption of Brazil?

Is there a game where the characters have to outwit the drug tests and doping officials?

'Cause if so, this could be the best Mario & Sonic Olympic Games ever!!!!
Whoever said, "Cheaters never win" must've never met Khushrenada.

I haven't unlocked the Harsh Realities of Rio 2016 mode yet. That comes after earning a few more gold medals.

Gotta be honest, the previous entries of this have always seemed a little... disposable to me? But this time around it looks quite alright. Is the football portion a lot like Mario Strikers, or just boring Actual Fifa Rules?

Don't think I'll be picking this up given my current backlog (plus I've not seen it anywhere, surprisingly), but hope you're having fun with it Phil!

There are two football events in this Mario & Sonic. One is traditional, and one is Duel, where you can slide into opponents to score reserve points and use electric shocks to daze foes. It's a much more visceral mode then. When you score a goal, the points you had in reserve from attacking foes determines how many points you earn from that goal.

And yes, I am very much having fun with the game. It's particularly great in co-op. Wouldn't recommend it for full price for a solo experience.

Here's my in-depth review I wrote on the game if anyone is interested:
