So,

My friend is playing my cube and he steps on it or something. Anyway, the open button is smashed down, so the lid wont latch shut, therefore I can't play. Cool, Huh! I've tried fiddling with the black latch that holds the top down, but alas with no positive output. THe Cube still reads and runs discs properly if i put something of any weight on top to hold the top down, but I don't want that to fall off and ruin a saved game. Does anyone know how to fix the black latch?
If anybody wants to give me any virtual boy games, that would be, Indubitably, Neat-o.

Well, opening the drive lid will not ruin your saved game--the game will simply ask you to close the disc cover (or whatever it's officially called).  In some cases the ame may not even notice right away!  I don't have any suggestions on how to fix your system, other than bring it to a Ninteno authorized repair center.  I don't know how much that repair would cost--you may be better off buying a new system and getting a free Game Boy Player if you don't have one already.  You could always keep the old system around for future LAN gaming.

Heh.  Duct tape will fix anything.

I would try taking it apart if I were you, and seeing if you can unstick it somehow from the inside.  It probably couldn't hurt if your GameCube is still on warranty.

I would keep it the way it is, it doesn't seem so bad having to just put some weight on the lid.
