UPDATE: Official confirmation! Free money for buying games? Finally!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/deal/34863

If you buy Fire Emblem: Awakening and Shin Megami Tensei IV, you are eligible for $30 eShop credit through Club Nintendo in the United States and Canada.

It doesn't matter if you get the games via digital or retail, or even if you bought the limited edition Fire Emblem 3DS. Just make sure you register the games by August 31, and you will receive the credit starting as early as July 16, which is the day Shin Megami Tensei IV comes out.

We're currently looking into whether or not you have to perform the registration surveys to be eligible for the eShop credit or not. Just in case, be sure to complete your Fire Emblem: Awakening survey before it expires!

The original story is as follows: A promotion set to go live on July 16 will allow 3DS owners to get $30 credit if they purchase both Fire Emblem: Awakening and Shin Megami Tensei IV (which is set to release on the same day).

According to Negative World, it doesn't matter whether players own the physical or digital copies of the games, as long as they've registered both games on their Club Nintendo account. However, there hasn't been any official announcement regarding the inclusion of physical copies at this time.

Atlus has told people to make sure the register the Club Nintendo code that comes with the physical version as it's more than just Atlus benefiting.

Now, if this credit can be used on the WiiU... I may be in for some Pikmin next month. /rubs hands in anticipation

I'm pretty sure this is eShop-only. I'm going all physical for these games, but this is an absolutely amazing promotion anyway. Helps spread awareness for these two awesome franchises and increases the available fan base for the upcoming SMT x FE. Goddamn I'm hoping that game blows my mind.
Also, would be nice if this promotion extended to people who bought more than $40 worth of the FE13 DLC.

Wait a minute....I already own, and have put 120 hours into, FE Awakening, and I've got a preorder for the special edition of Mega Ten 4 which you will have to pry from my cold dead hands.

Do I get 30 bucks too?

Oh yeah, I know I have 2 sealed copies of that game.   1 is for trading.  But people who collect Amiibos?  They really have a problem!

This is the main reason why I wish that Nintendo would create a unified system account between the 3DS and Wii U so that they could offer more discounts and deals for buying more games digitally.

Well this explains why there was a Club Nintendo code in the Atlus unboxing video last week - I thought that was odd at the time.  I guess the $30 code will be redeemable similar to when you purchase VC games through Club Nintendo (?).  This is fantastic news!

A few third party games have had CN codes right? Plus i'm guessing were getting this promo becuase a new trailer for Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem will be shown next week.

Anywho I'm planning to purchase both games next week and use the $30 credit toward a purchase of Animal Crossing.

I haven't bought Fire Emblem yet, but I plan on buying it; however, I'm not at all familiar with Shin Megami Tensi games I guess this means I'd better take some time and learn about them so that I can decide if I want to take advantage of this deal.

Are Shin Megami Tensei games such that a guy like me that knows nothing about the story can jump in on IV and still understand well enough to enjoy the game?

I'd buy these games physical, which sadly I don't think the promotion applies to. Not even $30 credit is enough to sway me to go digital. Still, a great promotion for those who like digital copies.

Club Nintendo page is up.

It's for the people who purchased the games on the eShop.

It's for the people who purchased physical copies of the games.

It applies to people who buy Fire Emblem going forward. Or who bought it when it came out.

It's for the people who got the 3DS Fire Emblem special edition.

It's for people who want to redeem redeem the code on the 3DS. Or the Wii U.

It's for everyone. Just register the games by August 31st and answer the survey before the end of September.

Works for both eshop and physical purchases, including the Fire Emblem bundle from back in January.  Seems simple enough:

Well, provided my Fire Emblem retail copy I registered a few months ago & my SMT 4 retail copy I register next Tuesday count, Wonderful 101 is going to cost me about what I'm willing to pay for it.
There was a Signature here. It's gone now.

This is a really cool promotion, especially now that it counts physical copies. I am interested in SMT4 and this $30 credit helps taking the bite out of the $50 asking price of it.

My brother got Fire Emblem a few weeks ago so I'll let him know.  Don't know if he's interested in SMT4 though but a $30 credit is really generous.  If he puts it towards a game later on that he was going to buy anyway he can see it as getting SMT4 for only $20.

Being JRPG's (and not, say, a western RPG), the stories are not linked between games.   If anything, the only thing linking Mega Ten 4 and previous entries (as well as, say, any of the Mega Ten spinoffs like Devil Survivor, Strange Journey, etc.) is the gameplay conceit of collecting demons (aka Pokemon).

As for Fire Emblem:  Awakening (aka Fire Emblem:  Intravenous OCD Heroin).   I think you can get it for a couple bucks off MSRP right now, which is probably the cheapest it will EVER GET for a new copy.   If you don't believe me, look up how much a new copy of Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon costs.   Or Path of Radiance.  Or Radiant Dawn.   It's disgusting what those sellers on Amazon are doing.
