I'm on the fence with this one (and Black Ops 2, for that matter). My sole experience with the Halo franchise was a borrowed copy of Halo Reach from a Co-worker, and to say I didn't like the game is an understatement.  All I remember about it is 3-4 hours of utter boredom.

Halo 4, though, looks interesting, and footage of it reminds me a lot of Metroid Prime, which appeals to me so much more.  I'm especially interested in the apparent new focus on storytelling, something I thought was severely lacking with what I played of Reach.  That said, this is the 5th game (7 if you count ODST and Halo Wars) in a very long-running franchise at this point, and no review I've seen has made it clear whether this can be a jumping-on point for newcomers. I'm also not an XBox LIVE Gold Member and I never will be, so the multiplayer is probably completely worthless to me, so I don't know if the campaign alone will be able to justify that $60 with so many things I'm not certain about with this game.

I've played all the Halo's with the exception of 4. Its funny that you say ODST's story was lacking because among fans it probably delivered the best story.

I'm not going to bother with 4. The campaign is going to be the same old kill everything that moves, its only good for the multiplayer but I absolutely loathe the Xbox Live community.

ODST is probably my favorite game campagin wise.

Also if your complaning about the Campagin then I don't know what to say. The majority of reviews are nothing but positive on the new direction.

Also. If you think halo games are all nothing but kill rooms than I would reccomend into looking into some of the design. Aspects of the game.  Halo is a game known for the way the ai reacts and changes with every encounter.

That and this game that's pretty. Lore heavy .

I know its heavy on lore but I suppose the games never made me care enough about the universe for me to dive in and absorb all that information. Having played all the previous Halo's it just felt like a simple repeat of going somewhere then figuring out who are these guys that are getting in my way and how will I kill them. It's just become stale after 4 games.

Before Halo 3 and ODST even came out I had a prediction of how the gameplay would feel and what I expected from the campaign. My prediction was mostly spot on. They felt like the previous games but more, more weapons, prettier graphics, new enemies and new vehicles. After buying the games I forced myself to go through the campaigns even though I wasn't having much fun. I did it because having paid good money for the game I was still hoping it would get better.

The reviews are mostly saying its still Halo, but better than ever. I'm just not in to the whole Halo thing any more.

Mass Effect on the other hand I was very fascinated with the lore, I even bought the 3 novels. The gameplay could have been tighter but its Bioware and I wasn't expecting them to pull off a stunning action game.

Actually, what I said was that what I played of Halo Reach seemed very weak on the storytelling.

LOL! Sorry I kept thinking they were the same game. I had to go on Wikipedia just to clarify. That's just how much apathy I have for the series. I've completed both games yet here I am thinking its the same thing.

It's alright. They're all pretty much the same, generic game.

Didn't care for ODST myself, didn't fit well with the lore (namely common soldier killing brutes by the dozen), Reach wasn't to bad but it makes much more sense if you follow the novels/comics like I do.

Haven't played 4 yet but the best way to experience an Halo game (well besides co-op of course) is the higher difficulty --if you played any FPS in the last ten years I would skip normal and go for at least Hard--heroic.  Much more enjoyable IMO than just blasting your way through the game without any challenge.

I have the game. It's pretty fun so far, lots of customization. Add me to your Live if you want to play.
