Valve Software Founder comments on Miyamoto

Im a Gamespot Complete member, and a couple days ago they put up a developer interview for the guys doing Half Life 2.  Gabe Newell, founder of Valve was talking about the autosave system, and how if they've done it properly, you'll trust the system and not have to always worry about quick saving.  He believes that you should just be able to play the game, without worrying about some kind of exterior action like 'saving'.  In any case, while talking about this he sais the following:
Quote

"This is something that I think Miyamoto does really well. You can trust his game design. ... He'll acomadate your skill level and your methods and plan for them so that you can just play the game rather than the most frequently used commands in the game being 'save' and 'restore'."
This really brought home to me how much Miyamoto influences not just us, his fans, but the entire industry.

I watched that video too and was pleased to hear Miyamoto mentioned. His game design is admired by many if not most game developers.

That was the problem I had with Half-Life.  It had some great designs, but I always found myself trying to get through the same six-second segment over and over again until I had it perfect due to the saving system.  I wish it would just have save stations that would heal you all the way (only usable once - you couldn't replenish your life every time you get hurt) in between areas.

What is so amazing about Miyamoto's save-systems in particular, anyway?  They're exactly like any other console save system...

He's not talking about Miyamoto's save systems...He's saying their idea with the save system is the same basic idea Miyamoto uses with all his game...The player just plays the game, without worrying about anything else. For example...in Grand Theft Auto 3, you have to worry about cars disappearing, things not staying where you left them, etc. That sort of thing doesn't happen in Miyamoto's games. They are just natural...
