EB Games recalls the game due to save file issue.

Due to Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D being unable to wipe the save data from the game, EB Games Australia has put out a recall nation wide and will no longer be selling the game for the foreseeable future.

After checking with a local store for comment, the salesperson mentioned that the game was being recalled due to a bug in the software that would not allow the game to be restarted. In actuality, the inability to reset the game was intentional, and is mentioned in the manual. When asked if the game would be put back on sale eventually, the salesperson assumes that it will, but not anytime soon.

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D is not even supposed to be on sale yet; originally, it was to be released on June 30.

I assumed that someone complained to the store (isn't the game not even out yet there legally?) and the company assumed it was a bug without checking with EB Games first.

I dont know why they couldnt just add this to their list of games that can't be traded, why stop selling it outright.

Why does this make such a difference? I mean, it's stupid, but I don't see how it's enough of a factor to turn you against the game entirely.

I agree.  This is really really silly.  We are talking a High Score game.  This is not the first game to do this.  In fact I don't remember resets, beyond taking the battery out, very prevalent till GBA.  If unlocking everything by yourself is very important to you buy an unused copy.  Its as simple as that.  The only people I really see being hurt by this is Gamefly and other rental places to be honest.

Though EB is just recalling it to show that they can and to put publishers on call about trying to mitigate their used game empire.  Honestly though losing Gamestop really that big of deal when you have Toys R' Us , Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Amazon, etc.

Really, if anything, this has shown that this can be an effective strategy of combating the GameStops of the world. EB did this to throw their weight around, but it also shows that they felt threatened by it.
