Golden Sun Nintendo's Final Fantasy?
« on: April 21, 2003, 01:59:58 PM »
Hey guys, I just beat Golden Sun 1 yesterday and after completing it and reviewing the story and characters, I was thinking that a smart move for Nintendo would be to put this beast on the GC. I believe that if Golden Sun got half as much attention as FF, then it could very well be the next big zelda for Nintendo. Well I'll be getting Golden Sun 2 along with a GBA SP soon and for those of you who beat the second one, without revealing too much, could you tell me if they left off in a way that would lead to a third and maybe fourth game?? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE say yes!

i havent beaten the game yet, but i think it is a three part series. i dont think that gs would have recieved as much attention if it was on the gamecube. the thing that made it popular was the spectacular graphics on a HANDHELD. it just wowed people. i think that now it has gotten much attention from people, golden sun may be on a home console someday. with movies instead of the dialogue u have to click through. or on the next gb with cutscenes.
golden sun is cool though the way it is. im not saying that it wouldnt be good on a console, but its good on the gba too.

The thing that really clinched Golden Sun for me was the battle system; I never could stand any of the final fantasies after 2 because of the real time battle system (Well, active battle, I suppose they call it.) I love dragon warrior, earthbound, phantasy star, breath of fire, etc... and golden sun retains those delicious *true* turn based systems while enhancing it with djinns and the like.

I doubt that Camelot or Nintendo would ever spread (or pack) a franchise out like Square did with FF. Golden Sun is a very high quality game but even with that quality it doesn't do a story judgtice if you spread it out like butter.

I'd say Camelot's more like Nintendo's own personal Squaresoft rather than Golden Sun being Nintendo's Final Fantasy. I say that because Golden Sun has one big story arc rather than the loosely connected stories like FF, and hence it's kind of limited in how many games there can be in the series (I don't see any more than 3). Camelot, as we all know, however, is a very experienced RPG developer and I think they're to Nintendo what Square was to Nintendo back in the NES/SNES days.

I think it'd be cool if we got a Gamecube incarnation of Golden Sun, but really it's doing so well on the GBA and I'd love to see what Camelot can do with a brand new series on the Cube.

Nintendo's Final Fantasy would have to be Fire Emblem

Yeah, but where would Golden Sun go? I mean, you explored all of the mao, and all the islands and continents are surrounded by waterfalls. Golden Sun has that capability of becoming a Gamecube Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy is a standard that all RPG's are measured. Golden Sun for Gamecube will have to be better than...say Final Fantasy X.

Speaking of Fire Emblem...WHERE THE HECK IS OUR AMERICAN VERSION! COM ON NINTENDO, WE WON'T DISSAPOINT!!!!!!

Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream to dream before
But the silence was unbroken, and the darkness gave no token..."

They could certainly do more with the golden sun locale in future games.  You could go outside the waterfall area to explore what's there, you could use magic to travel to a moon or something, you could go underground.  And those are just the ideas that steal from FF

At least in Golden Sun the world isn't square shaped and also round (dur?)

Golden sun is just a really, long, amazingly well made RPG.

I don't think it tries to be anything like a final fantasy, but its hard to NOT be like one, considering the limitations in hte genre (ANY RPG will be compared to final fantasy, ANY...)

anyway, i prefer golden sun 1+2 much better than FF IX or X (9 was the worst final fantasy IMO... i had to stop playing i was so bored)

anyway, its an amazing game, and i do expect it to be on gamecube eventually.
