My proudest moment...and I've created a monster.
« on: March 04, 2011, 11:04:18 PM »

So, I got my daughter a Nintendo DSi about a week or so ago, and she has been playing New Super Mario Bros. basically non-stop ever since then. I'm totally psyched that she enjoys it, but I **** you not, I've had to charge it 3 times in the past 2 days because she has completely drained the battery. It's pretty amazing watching her play though, she hasn't attempted to use Y or X to run yet, but she's gotten the whole idea down. Before this her only gaming experience was on her Leapster hand held (piece of ****), a point-and-clik Dora game for the DS, and a Go Diego Go! game for Wii. She also started playing those old I Spy games when she was about 3 years old, and instantly understood how to use the mouse to navigate on the screen. Anyway, she's officially a gamer now. It's awesome. She's the same little girl in my avatar too, only 3 years later.

Thats pretty cool Brandogg. I have a nephew and he pretty much was the same way with his DS Lite. He always wanted to play games with me as well when he came over so much that I would get tired of playing. That was a few years ago.
Maxi is dead. I killed him and took his posts and changed genders.

That's pretty awesome  ;D ! My daughter just turned 2 and as far as gaming is concerned, she's pretty content on just holding onto a second controller while I play Pacman CE:DX and DKCR.

I can't wait till her attention span is long enough to where we can enjoy videogames more together.

That's awesome, way to go on creating a new Nintendo consumer! haha

I guess this is on a related note, and I honestly have no where else to post this so might as well throw it in here..

But I play a couple of games with my two, younger, cousins from time to time, and their little sister who tries to play with us on occasion has started doing something that took me back to my younger days.. maybe some of you can relate.

While playing a game, and constantly kicking her ass, the youngest one Karen, will start to whine and assume that one of us are cheating and demand we switch wiimotes. Has this happened to anyone else? I find it hilarious when she does that, and how annoyed her older brothers get, only because when they were her age they did the exact same thing to ME.

I remember playing Goldeneye on N64 with them and kicking their asses, only to hear the bitching and moaning; "you're cheating cuz you have that thing in your controller" (referring to my 3rd party rumble pak). I'd switch the damn thing out and let them use it, only to hear it again; "you're cheating, your whole controller is different" (referring to my blue or black controllers). I could never win the argument, they swore I somehow must of been cheating no matter how many times I'd let them use my rumble or controller paks, or the controller itself. Poor girl though, they're a lot harsher on her than I was on them.

Anyway, it's just funny to me to see it come full circle with them. Sure, it's nothing compared to having your own child and getting her into games, but it's close? yeah..

Well what's funny is the way she plays, it's just like Miyamoto (I think) was saying was inspiration for the Wii Remote. Watching people raise their controllers when the character would jump, or jerk the controller to either side when running. She does the same thing, though not as much as she did when she first started. I've been helping her out here and there (and we're using AR codes so she doesn't die in NSMB), but she (and I) beat the game today. I haven't played if for 4 years, so I need to mess around and figure out where the entrances to World 7 and 8 are.

I love seeing that reaction in kids, but I love it more in adults.

I can't believe NSMB is 4 years old...

I was thinking about getting my niece a DSlite (pretty cheap nowadays), if only to calm the hurricane energy inside of her.

Btw, I think Miyamoto is looking down on this thread and smiling.

I do remember somewhere that the design philosophy of the Wii was greatly influenced by the Nintendo DS. If the DS had failed, then Wii development would start over from scratch.

That's cool.

She's probably better than me at that game lol. Swooped through the first few worlds and then failed on 8.
