If someone would have read it without looking for reasons to get pissy, they would have seen my intention of discussing how one's opinions differ when they own all three consoles. I was trying to get across that it is a great RPG for the Wii, but because I own all three consoles I will probably be passing on it.
I feel that is still a discussion which doesn't belong in a thread about a Wii exclusive, but rather, somewhere in the General Gaming board. What relevance does it have to the game? Why does Kytim89's perception of Wii games matter? To each their own I guess, but I wouldn't care if he said the game looked better than all PS3 games combined.

It is difficult for me to believe you have enthusiasm for Nintendo when you are still saying things like "it's a great game for Wii but not if you own other consoles." To be fair though, I haven't seen very much of you around, probably because you are busy like you say. It would just seem that when I do see you it tends to be something a bit negative, so it's probably just unfortunate happenstance. I guess it could also partly be an affect of the preconceived notions you mentioned. In any case, I hope to see you show your enthusiasm, because I try to encourage positive discussion if I can.

As an aside, I don't think what happened is deserving of such a negative karma score. I've been giving you +1 for the past few hours now.

I give a lot of thought to what derailing counts as in a thread, and in all honesty, I don't necessary believe it's something that should be frowned upon when it happens in a natural conversation flow.

It's also evident that I'm still doing a bad job explaining what I was trying to get across with my comments.  I'm going to try one last time even though I vowed to leave it alone, just because you are being so polite. :)

I've been giving a lot of thought to the differences between being a single platform owner, and owning all the consoles.  Kytim's comment brought those thoughts back to my head.  I've also been thinking a lot about how much money I spend on games versus how much time I have to play them.  Maybe someday that topic will be a blog post here.  Anyway, the combination of those two thoughts had me looking at the trailer for the game and deciding that it looked extremely average to me.  That has nothing to do with what system it's on.  It just looked like an average RPG.

Now, having an average RPG is generally a good thing for a platform.  It extends the genre options available to those that only own one console.  That is why it is a good thing for Kytim (and many others on this board).

However, when Kytim mentioned that he didn't think games could look better, that just struck a cord to me as a multiplatform owner.  I believe I came right out and said to him that it is true for him who only owns one console. (If I didn't, that is what I meant).  However, for me, because I have significantly more average RPGs at my disposal, I would prefer to play one that looked nicer on my TV.  That again, is based off the fact that I just don't have the time to play all of them, so when picking an RPG, I have to be relatively picky.

I also made it a point (or meant to) to state that this is all based on the assumption that the game will be decidedly average.  If I hear amazing things about the game, I will surely revise my opinion.

At that point I feel I was unfairly attacked as if I was some sort of anti-nintendo fanboy.  The fact of the matter is I am becoming more and more pro-developer. I don't care what platform games are on.

So yeah, I apologize if that is viewed as derailing, but as I said earlier, I feel that it was an alright tangent for the current conversation.

I'm not going to lie. This definitely all stems from my longing to see first party Nintendo games done with the horsepower that the other consoles have.  It is something that is on my mind all the time. I'm not just bringing it up to upset people.  Again, I cite that as more evidence for how much I follow and enjoy Nintendo developed games.

Have you no decency sir?

Are you going to challenge him to a duel on the field of honor?

Amen. I think about this at least once a day -- whether it's just for a few seconds or a looooong thought process. To think what an HD Zelda or Mario would look like (whether cel-shaded or not) would be incredible.  I'll never forget seeing that first glimpse of the Wii Remote and its supposed abilities at TGS... and then months later when we saw the first games, I remember thinking, "Awww... that's it?" I was bummed beyond belief.  And no Satoru, I did not say "wow!".  I was still excited about what possibilities the remote would allow me to do in games, but it was almost like Nintendo kicked the crutch out from under my arms -- after the beating I took being a GameCube only owner...even though that system was a powerhouse.

So ready for Nintendo to return to their former SuperNES glory days self. I miss those days.

Actually, I agree with that to an extent, I'm thankful for the relatively loose topicality around here. It can sometimes be bad, but it is nice to be able to talk and not have to worry about someone yelling at you for straying off topic.

Exceptions, for me at least, are when I feel a topic doesn't belong on that particular board, and instead would be good on another board. For example, if people want to spam, post random things they found, crack dirty jokes, etc., they come here to the Funhouse. That stuff shouldn't happen in topics on other boards. When it comes to the Nintendo Console Discussion board, I think talking about other systems may not be the best of ideas, unless maybe the game is multi-platform or something. It can come off as being "fanboyish" or anti-Nintendo. Unfortunately, that's what happened.

I've been giving a lot of thought to the differences between being a single platform owner, and owning all the consoles.  Kytim's comment brought those thoughts back to my head. I've also been thinking a lot about how much money I spend on games versus how much time I have to play them.
I think it's a good topic, good enough that it could probably work as its own topic. It seems a bit much to go in a Wii-exclusive game thread.

There's definitely a difference in perception between owning one system and owning every current one. It changes what one values in games, what a game has to do to be appealing. Usually it comes down to getting the exclusives for each. I own just a Wii, and I'm admittedly ignorant of most of what appears on the other systems. Obviously I know they have much better graphics, as I've seen some screenshots and videos. Though I'm sure there's more to them than that. But I don't care to know what I'm missing. Most of those types of games don't appeal to me, and it isn't worth it to spend money buying another system when there are plenty of games out there I already want (and not just for Wii). It isn't a bad thing to own just one system, especially if the person is content. I don't think you were saying that, just observing differences.

I remember in the original incarnation of the boards, there were boards, but no sub topics. So conversation would always derail, and that was the natural flow of things. People didn't start topics, the discussion was always involving everyone.

for example
there was Nintendo Console Discussion
and because it was still the n64 era, people could talk about any game, the next console. It was a format that allowed for much longer and thoughtful posts. Whereas now people have their clicks, and tend to stay on certain boards, or certain topics.

it would be cool if there was a classic style section for long discussion. Much like talkback it would have threads with predetermined topics of discussion, but because the topics are so generalized they would allow for much more freedom in the conversation.
