God, it's so late. Can't...listen...yet.

Anyway, screw this noise. I want the Drunkcast.

Just kidding (of course). I'm seriously excited about listening to this.

I may or may not relisten to this today. I was already a member of the audience. It was kick ass then, and I can only assume it's kick ass now.

I said this after we finished, I don't think it was funny. RFN isn't a "comedy" podcast, but I don't think the show works as well without some levity. Its probably more noticeable as someone who does it.

I know I had things I wanted to say, but the very ironclad hour time limit dissuaded me from doing so.

The discussion content is very good, and its interesting to get a take from people not on the show every week. I already could guess what Jonny would say, but Karl and Obi were mysteries.

I just listened to the episode.  I wasn't disappointed at all, but I was almost expecting to hear a more spirited debate about games/topics, particularly since Karl and Obi were on the show and aren't regular participants anymore.   (I wasn't listening during the Pirate Radio days, but I started listening to RFN in the 6 months before the Wii launch.)   I think that hour-long rule hurt in that regard, and it's a shame that you guys couldn't get into more of a debate...  Anyway, given the time and scheduling restrictions, I thought you guys did an admirable job of staying on topic and spent an appropriate balance of time between the panel discussion and the Q&A segment.  Overall, I give a thumbs-up; it was an excellent show.

Incidentally, I also just listened to the PAX East panel from a large website that I will not name; and, though I've been a long-time listener of that particular podcast, it made me realize that I just don't enjoy it (or the hosts) anymore...  If I had to summarize why,  I think the reason is this; it's because they spend as much time (if not more time) talking about themselves than gaming.

I thought your panel was much better, particularly because of the quality and thoughtfulness of the discussions and the genuine, honest love for gaming that you guys show.  It's why RFN is always at the top of my podcast queue every week.

This was a great panel, I enjoyed listening to it, and most of the questions were great... I thought it was funny how everyone just stopped giving their names. I was interested if any of them were forum goers. Oh Well

Sundoulos, I would have loved to have thrown down in a big debate with the guys, but the time really didn't allow for it. Any jokes/petty argument would've just taken time away from the real reason we were there - to have an informative (and hopefully entertaining) discussion about what makes Nintendo games Nintendo games.

EDIT: And for the record, any pettyness and arguing was more than made up for in the Drunkcast, coming soon to a podcast feed near you!

I thought as much.  Like I said, I thought it was great panel.  I hope the PAX East panel helps to expose RFN (and NWR, as a whole) to the gaming community.

As for the Drunkcast, should I be looking forward to it or should I be very, very afraid of it?

The sound on this podcast is great!

Seconded. Having already heard another podcast recorded at PAX East this year and also live panels from the regular PAX in previous years, I really didn't expect that the sound quality would be anywhere near as good as it is here. Everyone was clearly audible, including the audience members asking questions, which was very valuable for the flow of the excellent Q&A segment. As for the content of the panel, it was of course great to hear Karl and Mike again, the feature topic was both succinct and substantive (we have trouble with the first part normally, at least when I'm involved) and overall I'd say this more than lived up to all the hopes I had for it. Outstanding job guys--I only wish I could've been there with you.

Now let's see if the imminent Drunkcast can destroy all this goodwill....

I find it funny how Metroid Fusion and Other M seem to be against Nintendo's philosophy of gameplay first (can anyone tell me what the gameplay purpose of being forced to stop and listen to that stupid computer in Fusion was?).

Also the best part of Wii Play was Tanks.

Very well done, guys. Just finished listening to the panel on my way to work. Yes, it started slow, with a wee bit too much time devoted to intro's I think but once the topic discussion started, you never looked back. That's just meant as a constructive feedback point for next time (Pax West, eh?).
And you know what? I really did feel like it was a podcast for grown-ups. It didn't need to be jokey or funny (so don't sweat that, James) and it would have been death to be self-referential. Nope, you guys brought thoughtful, knowledgeable, dare I say scholarly discussion to a topic that generally lacks that style of input. You definitely lived up to your panel's title and I found it thoroughly engrossing and, yes, entertaining. Well done and thank you.
And, a special shout-out to Karl. I am going to have to go back and listen to older podcasts now. Karl is great, very natural and showed some great discussion leadership. You can tell he used to host (at least, I think that's what he said). Don't get me wrong, I love the current podcast lineup of Johnny, Jon, Greg and James but when there's a gap, Bring Back Karl!!

While I enjoyed the panel, it seems to have been dominated primarily by Jonny, Karl and Sklens.  If the opportunity presents itself in a future episode, I'd like to hear more from Lindy, Mr. Jones and--of course--Greg, regarding the subject.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Yeah, I felt it was tough for James and I to get a word in edgewise.  This also happens to me on the podcast, but at least in that setting you can talk over people and Greg can smooth it out later.  Jonny, Karl, and Mike are all big talkers, there's really nothing else I can say about that.

It's funny, from hearing me only on the podcast I bet people think I'm quiet and not too talkative, when it's actually completely the opposite.  I just get tired of having to talk over somebody every time I want to say something, and kinda tune out after a while unless I'm specifically addressed.

Yeah, listening to the show later on, Mike and I did sort of hog the mic at times (Jonny sort of has to, being the host and all). I guess I'm just used to the way TAWK-112 used to record, where we'd all be sitting at a circular table, and if someone wanted to say something, it was easy to spot and get an opening in there. That's a total mea culpa.

I also maintain that Lindy wasn't as into the panel because there were no beds to fall out of.

There is a real physical reason that it was more difficult for Jon and I to get a word in.  We were at one end of the table, and the conversation quickly shifted to the other.  Generally speaking we would have had to state "I want to say something" because physical queues would not be observed.

Absolutely.

But no worries. I'll make up for this the next time I'm on RFN. I'll just have Greg swap out everything I say with Lindy saying, "Maaaan, **** Super Mario Galaxy!"
