 With Wii Sports Resort promising 1:1 controls thanks to MotionPlus, Mario and Sonic returning for round two at the Olympic Winter Games, and Hudson's Deca Sports 2 offering online play, Sega is making their own sports compilation called Wacky World of Sports.

Exclusively for the Wii, the title's main appeal is the presentation of some of the world's lesser known sporting events, like Tuna Tossing and Extreme Ironing. Wacky World of Sports promises to be very accessible for everyone while using the Wii remote's unique capabilities. A single player Tour Mode in which you compete against other characters will also be present in the final release.

Wacky World of Sports is set for a late 2009 release.

SEGA TAKES SPORT TO THE EXTREME WITH WACKY WORLD OF SPORTS

Get Ready for a New, Over-the-Top Wii Party Game!

SAN FRANCISCO & LONDON (April 29, 2009) -- SEGA of America, Inc., and SEGA Europe Ltd today announced Wacky World of Sports, an outrageous new sports game exclusively for the home video game system, Wii. Wacky World of Sports brings some of the worldÂ’s most obscure sports to the videogame world for the first time, and will hit stores late 2009.

Wacky World of Sports takes players on a trip around the world to take part in some of the lesser known sports of countries like Italy, the Netherlands and Australia. The ten sports featured in the game all start easy enough but the more advanced a player becomes the more extreme the sports become! Tuna Tossing has been a popular sport down under for a number of years, but just how far can a tuna be thrown in the comfort of the living room? Drag out an old armchair to take part in Furniture Racing, but make sure Grandma is not still sitting in it because those chairs are fast! And if thatÂ’s still not bizarre enough, how about ironing a shirt while sky diving in the Extreme Ironing event?!

"Wacky World of Sports brings together what is easily the most outrageous collection of real life sports games SEGA has ever seen" commented Gary Knight, European Marketing Director, SEGA Europe. "The game brings a whole new dimension to the party game genre, and is sure to become a family favorite. By utilizing the unique way of playing on Wii, Wacky World of Sports makes these particularly unusual sports accessible to everyone!"

Compete in the mind boggling events of Wacky World of Sports with friends and family in the Multiplayer Party Mode which allows individuals to compete against each other to find out who will be crowned wackiest athlete. Alternatively, choose to play as one of a dozen larger-than-life characters in the Tour Mode and travel around the world defeating current champions to become the World Champion of Wacky Sports!

I thought extreme ironing was a fake thing until I looked it up and found it was real. LOL. Apparently it's doing stuff like ironing clothes while standing on a stone edge. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extreme_ironing

Okay, you got away with it the first time but now you're pushing it.

Now, if this had Extreme Knitting in it, I would be all over that.

Why is Sega even bothering with this piece of garbage when they are already working on Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games?

That's what surprises me as well. They are basically competing with themselves with Mario and Sonic, and Wii Sports Resort will prove to be a MUCH bigger competition.

The trailer suggests that this game has a bunch of big shadowy bad guys... which is sort of weird for a sports game...

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

This game looks like it could have totally been done by Suda51. It's so wacky, I would get it if it wasn't for it being a mini-game fest.

Why do you think Coke & Pepsi are so big? They make off brands of there own stuff as competition and get to give you the alternative to something you don't want and therefore get all of your monies.

I used to work at a Frito Lays warehouse, and could you guess how many chips they have on the shelves? All of them except for Pringles. You hate Lays, buy Doritoes. You hate Doritoes, buy Sun Chips. You hate Sun Chips, buy Tostitoes. etc etc etc. And guys who owns all of that?

Pepsi Co. they own both halves of the coin so they have no chance at losing. Crazy stuff.

I don't see them competing with themselves either. Is EA competiting with itself by releasing a NHL and NBA game within a month of each other?

A game based on real sports and a game based on crap that are only called sports by those who participate in them are not competition with each other. Speaking of fake sports, "professional" gamers need to stop deluding themselves, they are NOT athletes and playing video games is NEVER gonna be considered a sport nor are you ever gonna be considered an athlete just for playing games.
