New car, new life.....
« on: June 17, 2005, 04:34:51 AM »
Yes i bought a new car, my old Rx-7 FC carked it...poor poor rotary...

So to replace my FC i purchased my other dream car.....a Nissan Cefiro A31 with an RB20.... It cost around AU$ 10000 off a family friend, what a freaking steal.....

These pics are not my car but similar (my digital camera is not working!)

Cefiro Back

Cefiro Front

Mine is the same colour, but without the scuff on the side.
I hope to make a few mods without making it uninsurable.........

Congratulations, looks like a nice ride.  I'm too practical to buy my dream cars...they're too expensive and would waste gas compared to my trusty Toyota.

I rented a new Ford Mustang convertible on the weekend and boy was it a beautiful car.  Fun too...but man, it only had 2500 kms. and already crap was starting to break on it.  The passenger door lock disappeared into the door when my girlfriend had the gall to push it down manually instead of using the power door lock button.  That's just ridiculous - all Ford had to do was make the plastic hole that holds the door lock in place 1 cm. longer.  It was a great car to rent, but I wouldn't want to buy one.
That's my opinion, not yours.

Dream car?  As soon as I saw that I was immediately thinking Porsche, Ferrari (saw a 2005 on sunday) or a Lamborghini.  But I realized you meant something alot more down to earth.

I'm still saving up for my 'dream car', I figure its gonna cost me atleast 8,000 to buy from a private owner.  I want to get a 1996-2001 Lexus ES 300 but can't afford it. I just love the body style.  I had a 98 Camry for a while, cause it looked like the lexus I wanted, but that car is long gone .

anyway happy you found what you were looking for and @ at a price you could afford.  Hope I have the same luck when that time comes for me.

Congrats on the car - hope it lasts you for a long time to come.

I realised that I couldn't have my previous view of a "dream car" (the Ferraris, McLaren F1s, Maybachs, and BMW 7-series of the world) when I was 8 years old.

I toyed for a while with the notion that I could get a cheaper BMW - maybe a 3-series or something. But, right now, I really don't know, so my "dream car" at the moment is a Mitsubishi Galant. I really love those although I've heard that Mitsubishi didn't do too well on the North American market. So I might have to stick with Hondas and Toyotas, but don't we all?

Wow, how our dreams deteriorate as we grow older.

Mitsu is in a slump.  The new Eclipse is outstanding, though a bit expensive.  They've also upped their warranties to 10 years here now which is nice as well.  I personally drive a 95 eclipse that I love.  I'm trying to find a winter beater car so I can put the Eclipse away and do some work on it.

My dad just bought a 2006 eclipse though and I'm quite jealous.  Student loans from grad school will keep me from buying one for a while though.

I found this car online that this guy is selling for really cheap.  A 2003 Honda Civic completely custom (body kit, racing seats, racing rims, DVD in dash, PS2 under seat, custom Stereo w/ speakers, steering wheel etc.) and it has less than 10,000 miles on the engine and he is selling it for $3,000.

To me it looked like the engine alone is worth $3000+, the stereo w/ speakers & amp is worth $2,000+, the innards of the car are worth at least $1,000+ easy.  It sound like another too good to be true deal.  A co-worker claims scam.  I'm taking a wait and see approach cause the car is in Beverly Hills and I'm in the Bay Area, but I'll be down near there in less than a month and want to see the car in person.

Does this seem too good to be true? A car that should sell at minimum for $15,000 that has 1,000's of $$$ worth of upgrades only being sold for $3,000.

BUMP!

Just wanted to add that my Dad recently crashed my car. Totally wrote it off! Oh well, lucky he wasn't hurt. I now have a new car, well not new. It's a Diahatsu Charade from the early 90's. It good because it's fuel efficient, so less money for petrol means more money for games......

Writing off cars is a great experience and I think everybody deserves it to happen to them. The emotional turmoil, the uncertainty to your immediate financial future and if the car is salvagable. The dealling with insurance companies around the country and finding out that you get money for a stolen motorbike. And you realise how inconvienced you suddenly are without the car, inconvienence you DIDN'T EXPERIENCE before purchasing it.

BUMP!

Update again. Involved in an accident involving the charade, but not my fault. I was stopped at the traffic lights, driver behind not looking until the last minute and rearended me. So another writeoff for Dasmos. Sucks doesn't it?

Boo at BMWs and YAY for Galants!

I work at a BMW dealership/service center and these cars come in for service for the stupidest reasons. They offer some sort of discount, though i don't know the details, but I'd never buy one of these peices of crap.

As for Galants... My first car was/is a 98 Galant that my stepfather bought used off a friend of the family. It was in good condition, the guy didnt put many miles on it but i sure as hell racked some up in the...hm.. i think i've had the car 3 years now. The things never given me a problem. I change the oil and change the tires when the time comes, and i did replace the battery once, but other than that  my cars in tip top shape. Well... not counting a few dings i've put in it and scratches that asshole kids have put in it.

Maybe its just a lil bias from it being my first car (well not really..) but after all i've been thru with this car, i really like my Galant and would love to purchase another. In the time I've had my car my mother and stepfather have gotten rid of 3 cars between them, and too many headaches to count. Who knows, maybe i'm just really lucky, but i'm sure i'll stick with Mitsu when it comes time to get a new car.

edit: Just realized how old this thread is, and how old the message i replied to was. Whoops.
