Politics piss me off
« on: September 10, 2008, 01:04:48 AM »
Why is it so hard to be genuine and real? People get made out into 2D characters far too often. Plus, almost everything is pandering; almost everything is non-specific; and almost everything is spin. And in this day and age, things are even worse by how easy it is to take everything out of context; no thanks to both the internet and the bias media. People get put through hell and literally have to reiterate themselves at least a thousand times. The stress they most go through of not being understood; my God, I wonder how they can even relax enough to ****. Not only that, it doesn't even matter, because while someone may vote with intelligence and respect, you've got someone else voting because of personal bias or because they're following what someone else told them.

Then there is the constant back and forth, and the mudslinging, and the 24 hour news networks, and the scandals after scandals, and the talking point after talking point, and the argument after argument.

Are election processes need to change. Why is it that when someone with a good heart, body, and soul comes through hoping to better everyone's lives, flying above the fray just doesn't work? You have to be dragged through the mud.

Why is it that when people argue and they can't agree on one point that they are immediately dismissive about everything else that person may care about? It seems like everyone that disagrees can't agree on anything. What about loving your country? What about loving life? What about loving your family and your neighbors and friends and only hoping for the best for people? What happened to human decency?

There is so much wrong with this world, and there are so many problems and crises that need our attention. But there is also so much right with this world, and we must never forget that.

I disagree, in a few ways, Kashogi.  Whenever someone comes along that's genuinely good, and genuinely looking to make a difference for the better, entirely non-selfishly it's not too hard to tell.  They're the people that don't allow anyone to take the fall around them, and the people that make unpopular decisions, the ones that really are for the better of the people.

Watching the American elections make me thankful for Canadian elections, which is a feat in and of itself. The sensationalism going on down in the states right now is unbelievable. I have never seen people talk for so long and say nothing. It's like running for class president has gotten out of control and been given million dollar budgets.

PS. I'm willing to bet we'll be finished our elections here in Canada before the States has a new President.

thatguy - I never said you couldn't tell, I was saying that their name had to be dragged through the dirt first.

And no DAaaMan - They don't automatically know, but isn't it at least comforting to know that they are indeed trying to better your lives first, with no ulterior motives.

Firstly, thanks for spelling the username right. Second, that was more directed at thatguy, and even then it was trick of his writing and how perceived it.

So how do you see a good person?  Is a good person honest about their past?  Their future intentions?  What if the politician you supported wasn't?  How do you KNOW? Is a good politician's song of choice as he enters on stage "Look how beautiful he is?", is a politician a pop star?

I pick a good person out mostly by how the company they keep, to be honest.  While I can't know everything about anyone, I can know bits about nearly everyone, and those bits together can say good things.  I've been in situation after situation where there have been people who through others under the bridge because it gets them one step closer to their goal, and that's it.  Those people, in the end, have never been the best people or the best of leaders.

But you're right, good people don't always make good government officials, either, but bad people don't, either.

Politicians know they might fail, good or bad persons, they are ready for it.  Politics is a dirty job, they are no pop stars or Disney heros.  And just because there are people that have personal "bias", it's not like you don't.  Lastly, know that, it is political philosophy that still drive a few of us to disagree.

Fortunately, good intentions can't fool all the people, all the time.

I don't know what else to say to rectify this, I find this personally a rather emotional rant on your part.

I've always been thankful for the Canadian style of election. But I completely agree with you.

Politics piss me off too, that's why we don't talk about them on these boards. Lots of pissed off disagreeing people make for nasty situations.
