Am I going mad? Or am I going sane?
« on: February 08, 2008, 06:17:19 AM »
Recently, I have been finding myself enjoying books far more then video games. I mean classical history books, as in Caesar's accounts of his Gallic wars or the works of Tacitus, Livy and Suetonius. At the same time, my will to play videogames seems to be decreasing. I would rather read through Tacitus' The Histories then play my 360. I do not see why so many people dislike reading history. It is poetry written not in verse but in the lives and deeds of men.

So, I pose this question: Am I going mad? Or am I going sane?

I think you have to ask yourself why you play games, Sister. Why?

I got into Dune.  Those books are much better than most games.

Yes I realize Dune was SOOO 30 years ago.  You can bite me.

What Pale said, only replace Dune with Foundation.

I haven't read a good book in ages. But I'm now currently undertaking an endeavor to read through all of Jane Austen's published works. I already own the DVDs, but I'm going to read the authoress' actual material now!

Not at all. I've always enjoyed books more than videogames.

Depends on your "sensory tastes," so to speak...I'm a visual person, so I tend not to read as much (talking entertainment, not work) as I would probably like because I have a really short attention span...So in the end I take up more visually-oriented alcoves as videogames and manga over words...

However, that is not to say I stray from literature altogether...I'm a big fan of Arthur Conan Doyle and Brian Jacques (Redwall series), and I read some random poetry on the side...

I probably spend twice as much time watching DVDs from netflix and my personal collection as opposed to playing games.

I go in streaks, sometimes I'll be playing games with most of my time, then I'll go for a while where I spend all my time watching Simpsons episodes I've seen a hundred times before, then I'll be reading a lot. Speaking of The Simpsons and reading, John Swartzwelders novels are some of the funniest things ever. His two most recent ones are actually better than The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, something I didn't think possible.

You and Stabby would get along well.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Hmm...Stabby goes missing due to his "Computer," and all of a sudden she pops up...

Seems to me like something is up here...

Could insanolord be a S-U-P-E-R alt?

The insinuation that I am an "alt" of anyone is libel. I will see that you are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

I was merely asking a question.  And you did not answer it.  I'm just wondering.  Who insinuated anything?

Did I say you were a ty-guy?  No, I did not.

Yeah, that book about evil imperialists and megacorporations fighting desert-dwellers because the most important fuel in the universe is buried in those sands and a spiritual leader emerging among them declaring jihad on the empire... Expect the DHS to visit you sometime next week.

and yes I read the Foundation trilogy too, I guess someone borrowed ideas from there for the newest Gundam anime...

Oh and for classic Sci Fi I also read The Star Diaries by Lem, some nice political and religious critique (*cough*libertarianism and Christianity*cough*) hidden in that otherwise comedic book.
