When my parents got me an SNES Dad also bought some country club golf game 'for me' and he and my uncle sat there playing it whenever my uncle came to visit. LOL

I also didn't ask for Phantom Hourglass because I wasn't terribly interested in it but I got it for Christmas a few years back (forget when it came out).

I also remembering asking for Link to the Past one birthday and getting Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse instead. Not a bad game and I did enjoy it but still a bit of a let down.

Your points are well taken and wholly acknowledged, especially the portion about PC gaming being a bit more mature in its use of the term. I stand by my statement as applied to consoles though, especially as applied to the self-proclaimed hardcore.

I remember i asked someone for Metroid Prime 2 for Gamecube. You can't really get that wrong. Instead he got me a budget motorbike racing game for PC, which he found in the bargain bin at Woolworths about 5 minutes walk from his house.

She didn't know I had a Genesis and not Snes. :-[

Nobody buys me games anymore.  The last one was probably Star Trek Armada from my sister.  I liked it well enough to play through the whole single player campaign, which is more than I can say for most run-of-the-mill RTS games I've tried.

I can buy my own entertainment, and I've come to realize that I'd much rather get stuff that I don't want to buy for myself as gifts.  The real gift is not having to go buy it myself.  Better they get seen shopping for underwear in public than me.

Not at all. netflix is AWESOME. It's one of the things that I really envy the PS3 and 360 for.

Netflix, Blue-Ray plus you could play Fat Princess as well.

Some girls I know who are Wii gamers wish they had PS3s solely for that game. They think it looks hilarious.
