Now my question is: where the hell do people even find VHS tapes to buy anymore?

I remember a few years ago my Mom sent me out to find a VHS movie for my grandparents for Christmas.  I swear finding a Wii was easier.  In the end a used copy at a videostore was my only option.  Most stores don't even have a VHS section and this was years ago before Hi-Def DVDs came out.  Now I see Blu-Ray and HD-DVD in virtually every store that cares DVDs.  If you want to buy them they're easy to find.  VHS tapes are damn near impossible to find.  So if they're only NOW outselling VHS then I think these new formats are pretty damn unpopular.

Man, if you want VHS tapes, that's 95% of the non-furniture and t-shirt merchandise that Goodwill has. Of course, most of those are action movies from the early 90s, but if you're not looking on eBay, beggars can't be choosers.

And the hi-def lobby should give it up; there's no groundswell of support for either format (and Blu-Ray would be dead if it wasn't kept on life-support by PS3 users). I know a number of people who love watching movies at home and could afford either player but won't buy them because they think it's a waste of money. I won't even have an HDTV for a couple years at this rate, and I don't think I'm an unusual case.
