I just wish they would redo Super Mario World in full 3D

Just how would they accomplish this without completely changing the way the game works?  By the time they pulled everything together it'd be a whole new game...

You make it sound so easy. If that's the case, they should be turning out new Mario games lickety split by just making 3D all the old games. But I think you and both know that it doesn't work that way, even though people would just be fine with it.

I didn't say it would be easy, just that is what *I* would want. *I* know it will never happen but *I* can wish for it either way.

And I'm also bewildered why New Super Mario Bros. has sold so highly. Yes, it was a new Mario side-scroller on a system with a huge install base, but the game didn't blow me away (I even sold it back, tho I now regret it). They should put out a second one of that out soon, but make it have a little more character next time around (the SMB3 to the original SMB, if you will). Super Princess Peach 2 would be nice, too.

The reason it's sold so much is because it's done exactly what the game was designed to do, recapture the feel of the Original Super Mario Bros, which it did.  That's why the game was called NEW Super Mario Bros.  Anyone could just pick the game up and play it at anytime, just like the original.  That's why the levels were all simple and small, get from point A to point B, like the original.

Even though some of you didn't like the game because of this, too bad.  The game wasn't meant to be a sequel to Mario World, but a tribute to the Original.  The director of the game EVEN SAID SO HIMSELF.

Tezuka also stated that New Super Mario Bros. will be a sort of throwback to the original NES Super Mario Bros.. Basically he feels that as Mario evolved, the games became more for the hard-core audience. He quickly clarifies that statement by saying, "That's not to say this game isn't for hard-core players, but I want to recapture the spirit of the original Super Mario Bros."

No, I love simple and small; the design of the game was great (though I wish I had a stronger incentive to redo the levels if that was the case). It was mostly the presentation; the music wasn't that hot, and using 3D graphics instead of sprites stopped the stuff on the screen from popping out right at me. But both of these could be tweaked for a sequel, otherwise the rest of the game was fine. It was just the blockbuster number that surprised me.

I will argue that New Super Mario Bros did not have the variety of Super Mario Bros.  Also if you are going to remake the original then go all the way.  Part of the reason the original Mario Bros worked like it did was because it didn't have a map.  You just progressed from level to level and Warp Pipes were the only way to skip.  Essential you were making a long run through just broken up to show progress.  Which I did enjoy.

New Super Mario Bros. has the absolute best 2-player multiplayer on the DS in Mario vs. Luigi.

Won't argue.  I've never played the it 2 player, no second player.

So true. I love 2 player mode in that game, used to play it with one of my friends for hours. I personally enjoyed New Super Mario Bros. I didn't think it would be the second coming and I went in with really no expectations. I wound up beating the game twice 100% through as a result.
