I have a good/bad memory for...
« on: March 03, 2007, 04:38:49 PM »
It's inevitable. You are bound to remember some specific things better than others. Post here what you have a good/bad memory of.

I'll start this train wreck:
I have a good memory for:
-Visual details: What people wore, how a place was decorated, the posters in a wall, the layout of a house etc. To this day, I can close my eyes and picture my grandma's old house in near perfect detail.

-Events and stuff that happened: I have a good memory when it comes to remembering stuff I did or what other people did. I'll confess that this is because I tend to chronicle everything on my LJ, or take pictures of said event and I always remember that because of it.

I have a bad memory for:
-Lines/dialogue in a movie/game/anime/TV series/book: I can explain to you the events that happened in a story and tell you what the characters did, but you lose me the minute you ask me what the characters said in a scene. For some weird reason, I can't remember any dialogue or even simple lines. I noticed last year when I watched Serenity with S_B and he pointed out that the scene was mentioning an event Reynolds had mentioned prior to said event. When he asked me "Did you hear that? Did you see it?', I was totally lost and I we had to rewind to the scene where Reynolds said that line. At that point I was like "where the hell was my head at?"

-Conversations: Unless something of vital importance was mentioned I will not remember what was talked about in a conversation, at least not in full detail.

- Names: I can remember basic names, but long, complex names are a no no for my head.

-All of Pre-school: My mom has an EXCELLENT memory of my pre-school days, but the minute she says "Do you remember when you went to pre-school with this person?" I say "Mom, don't even freaking bother!".

I remember can events enviroments in full 3D and can play them backwards and forwards. The level of details are pretty high except that I won't remember random alphanumerics ie. number plates. I will remember your face, but not your name. I can recall conversations as they are the same as events for me but not exactly and sometimes I would only have a summary which I can work from. But I somehow always have nice select quotes to use.

I navigate using a combination of landmarks, inertia and metally running the route in my head before and during the journey.

I have a good memory for how movie actors and movie stars look. It's almost a game amongst my family to watch a movie and pinpoint where we've seen certain actors before who have not exactly broken out into the main public's attention. Personally, I'm all about recognizing actors' facial structures and cheak bones, or their eyes.

We only refer to imdb to confirm our convictions and laugh at each other's mistakes.

I have a BAD memory for the names of real people who actually figure in my life.

Theres a psycology reason for this, but i forgot it as it's not my major. Perhaps if someone else in here is, they can tell you the term, it's common for most people.

I can pretty easily find my way by memory. However, I'm not very good at memorizing street names.

I have an extraordinarily hard time remembering dates (birthdays, especially), and eye color, and driving directions.  I also have a hard time remembering driving directions.  If I'm ever lost I'm going to need step-by-step written directions on how to get to my destination, otherwise I'm pretty hopeless...

For the life of me I can't remember birthdays either....out of the four other people in my family, I am only positive of my younger brother's birthday...the others I'm iffy.  I know the months at least >_>...  I also have a tough time noticing or remembering people's eye color.  That coupled with my inability to remember important dates will get me into some serious **** someday with a future girlfriend...

LMAO  I'm guessing that everything you mentioned in the second paragraph you had already forgoten that you mentioned them in the first?

I'm bad with names & numbers(Ph #'s & adresses), I'm decent with faces, and if I've been somewhere once, there is a good chance I'll be able to find it again.

Heh, that was a result of me carelessly rearranging my post at the last second.  Fitting, though

I have a steel trap of a mind when it comes to numbers (except dates) and passwords but most other things (like names) are a total wash.

If I've dialed a phone number 4-5 times, I typically never forget it again unless I go a year without dialing it.

I have my bank codes memorized as well as my debit card number, with expiration date AND the three-digit confirmation number on the back.

I have passwords that are over 20 characters long.

However, I won't remember someone's name from the beginning of a three minute phone conversation. Funny, eh?

I have a remarkable memory (visual memory, memory for events, conversations, movies, books, details, all sorts of things), but I can hardly ever remember something from a long time ago unless the memory is triggered.  Like, if someone asked me to tell a childhood story, I'd have to tell one of my pre-picked ones that I know for sure, or wait for a while and try to remember another one.  Sometimes random memories or details will rise to the surface, but usually they're held under until I start thinking about it hard (and then one memory tends to trigger off a whole bunch of others).
I have a pretty good memory for dates (I know a lot of birthdays), but I'm terrible at remembering appointments.  I almost always forget that kind of thing, and often, while I know the date, I forget to tell a person happy birthday when they're birthday comes. :P

We both suck, then!

I also have the same problem of wishing a person a happy birthday on the odd chance that I even remember it's their birthday in the first place.  I still remember that yours is May 2 (I hope >_>), so the week leading up to the day I'll keep reminding myself, but on the day itself I will completely forget
