Tired Of All The Wii Praise?
« on: March 23, 2007, 07:38:39 AM »
I'm not, at least not yet, but it's starting to get the point for me where it's like, O.K everyone is singing the praise of the system, developers are jumping ship left and right, so where are all the games I should be buying?

CNN has a very good article up about the Wii, where it talks about everything from the fact that old people play the system, to the fact that it outsold Microsoft and Sony's consoles in the months since it's release.

Really I wanted to just post the article, but it got me thinking, where is this really all leading? Is this going to lead to the Wii getting Final Fantasy XIV or Brain Age XIV?

I'm all for so called "non-games" but the Wii can do so much more than it's getting credit for. It's like the media is picking the off the leaves and leaving the apples. Sure the leaves are nice, but you can't eat them.
Silly monkeys; give them thumbs they make a club and beat their brother down. How they survive so misguided is a mystery. Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an a eye to heaven conscious of his fleeting time here.

I say its leading to both...

If you recall, the DS was first praised for its non games (Brain age and Nintendogs). Because the demand for the DS was so grand many games were released, and they sold in great numbers. That lead to Dragonquest IX on the DS.

So far, the Wii is heading down the same path. Both the non games and the gamer games are doing greatly on the system and its getting high marks across all ages.

So on that aspect I ain't doubting the future of the system. Nope. Not one bit...

Look at the DS for your answer. There was a game-delay there too once everyone realized that Nintendo had transmutated a hit where they were expecting only failure.

How long was the DS delay though? 1.5 years abouts? And that was on a handheld! The Wii...

Of course, we have our Spring rush of ports and quickly released titles(with SSX Blur, Godfather, Sonic, Medal of Honor, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, etc.).... And we're gonna have a Summer when Space Station Tycoon, Alien Syndrome (a Gauntlet clone with more RPG elements), and No More Heroes is supposed to come out.

But I expect the Wii's heavy third party support materializing with releases in Fall 2007. That is, support that stemmed from developers seeing the Wii launch and rush ordering kits, or ordering kits a few months before (i.e. development starting late summer '06 or fall '06). These games will be led by such anticipated fall '07 releases as MySims, DDR Wii, Call of Duty 4 (hahaha), Madden 08, and other here-to-fore-kept-under wraps releases.

Then we'll see in '08 more titles arriving in the aftermath, especially titles that have just started development at Wii launch or in january or February... probably as direct result of the Wii launch and all this good press.

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

I disagree. It may have taken 1.5 years for the DS to begin receiving a steady stream of quality games, but as far as I'm concerned, it took 9 months (August 2005) for the DS to begin getting AAA titles (Advance Wars).
