If you want to be the next American Idol, consider giving this oddball contest from Nintendo a shot.

With the impending doom that is the release of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire to the pre-teen masses, Nintendo is gearing up for the games' release with a contest.

Nintendo is looking for a few good singers.  All it wants to you do is come up with some lyrics to the Pokémon cartoon theme song, then record video of you singing it.  Send it in, and you could win a brand new (Lugia-styled Pokémon) PT Cruiser for your family.

Entries must be recieved by April 4th, so for all you wannabe stars out there, break out that microphone and get singing.  Nintendo is waiting for you.

True, but I'm the kind of person who would feel like a jerk for winning a prize I didn't really want and then selling it for big money to someone who does want it.  I'd rather someone who actually wants it to win it in the first place get it.

Nintendo, without a doubt, has the WEIRDEST campaigns.  Forget Acclaim.  Yoshi Day, the pasta bowl, and the singing contest own "Change your name to Turok" anyday.

Oh man I really wish that Nintendo are thinking of putting the entries up on the web or somewhere - I'd love to see all the Poke-nuts singing their tunes!

Nintendo does these "weird" campaigns because they generate a great deal of media attention.  As I mentioned in my editorial a little while back ... the most bang for the buck.

Acclaim should take notice.  Sometimes you can get your point across with out offending your prospective consumer.
