so i recently got a nintendo usb wi-fi router so i let my wii stay on wii connect 24 overnight. the next day i find out that my wii and the router are both very hot and there was even one point in the day where the wii wouldn't even turn on, i had to unplug it and plug it in to get it to turn on.  So what i want to ask is: is it normal for those things to get hot when left on, and shoult i really keep them on 24/7?
I'd send it to the mailbag but i need a quick response.

Mine is usually in "yellow light" mode, and it doesn't get "hot."  The temp i feel is close to the temp during normal game operation.

No.  My Wii doesn't get hot like that.  Now my wireless router is always a little hot but the Wii ain't.  Which way do you have it sitting?

well it doesn't get any hotter than when I'm playing, I just want to know if it's ok to keep the router and the wii on all the time and if anyone else does it.

Yes i did. I hate how it puts ".us" when you put a period, but i've found out how to fix that.

Eh, well my Wii always gets hot when it's on WiiConnect24. My router, not so much. I've never experienced the need to unplug it though, that's weird. Sounds like your Wii might be borked.

I seriously thought that this topic was about the .us nonsense. That needs to be fixed in a nintendo update (as well as making the B button backspace).

my brother has one of those third party console stands ... man that thing bugs me! The Wii could seriously tip over to either side in its tray!

My Wii is pretty hot (well, warm but warmer than a device should be in standby) even without using WiiConnect.

This thing is especially with third party trays the vent on the side is covered (The OEM stand has a hole in it but still).

Also when you are in standby most devices still use over 50% of its power consumption. I had to watch a few consumer reports about this if you want to save on energy turn the equipment totally off. And even if you don't have Wii Connection 24 enabled I have the supicion it still goes into a standby mode and not turn totally off the only difference it's not looking for the router to talk to it. So that is why the Wii is still really warm either way.

That's the question I'm wondering. I had mine on the thrid party tray, it was one where you can put 4 games on one side, 4 remotes and nunchucks on the other side.

The first thing I noticed was the lack of the hole on the bottom, the second thing was that it doesn't sit in it very well. But it was a present from my girlfriend so I thought I'd use it....I noticed the Wii getting pretty warm, so I moved it back to it's regular stand and it's still a little warm, but not too bad.

So I'm wondering if the people who are complaining about heat are using the third party trays? If so, if you're Wii fails due to overheating, can you hold that company responsible?

Also make sure the Wii isn't sitting on top of anything else that generates a lot of heat, like setting your Wii on top of a home audio receiver/dvd player that's almost always on. Just set it back on it's OEM stand and put it on a shelf.

Not as hot as the PS2 can get but definately hotter than the GCN ever did.
